NRL's growth mindset points to 18th team. And it ain't Perth.

the nrl needs to avoid this as it expands. Just putting a team in and throwing tens of millions at it in the hope it works would be a big failure.

the arlc is spot on adding teams which can improve junior pathways and be finically sustainable

GWS was just poorly conceived in every way though. Dull branding, no clear location, AFL seemed to be very arrogant in promoting them. Western Sydney is very multicultural and AFL still comes across as an anglo dominated sport, their attempts to win over the muslim community are eye rolling.

Their attempt to win over the Polynesian and aboriginal communities is probably worse

Looked at the demo's & saw large Indigenous population & believed their own hype that their sport was the indigenous game. Didn't realize the strong community connection to rugby league. Stupid & quite racist.

Warriors not doing nz2 hopes any favours! Absolutely dreadful team.
Haha!

Funnily enough, I reckon a new NZ team would have far more chance of success than the Warriors ever will. For many reasons. They wouldn't be hooked to the tribalism and 'we need to be Kiwi' mentality of the Warriors (for right or wrong), don't have the 10-11 years of failure hanging over their heads, could even choose to base themselves partly over in Australia, forge their own pathways etc.

The new investment by the ARLC into NZRL should hopefully see strengthening of grass roots in years to come. Will just take a while. Having said that why Australian clubs can unearth such NZ talent and Warriors cant remains a mystery to me!

The Warriors can unearth talent, just can't seem to REFINE that talent into untra-competitive, disciplined & CONSISTENTLY PERFORMING first graders.

That's why you see so many NZ juniors play for the Warriors at the start of their career, get disillusioned, sign for an Aussie club and suddenly become so much better.

That's a bit of a fallacy. We can unearth it, we just don't develop it. We've had very good players in our system who never become NRL standard. Since 2011 and Ivan, we basically haven't brought a single junior through who has thrived at our club and become an NRL quality player. 11 years without that. Insane.

Yet the likes of Papalii, Niukore, SST, CNK (I know he's regressed, but he did have a booming season or 2 in the Raiders' run) Sipley etc go elsewhere and become much better. Papalii being the prime example. Went from a plodder who none of us even wanted in our side, to Eels player of the year in 12 months.

In a nutshell, as far as player development, relentless attitude & non-negotiable standards go...

Aussie rugby league = NZ rugby union

Aussie rugby union = NZ rugby league

The biggest problem is your coaching. Thinking about it, other than Ivan Cleary, you have had coaches like Stephen Kearney, Matt Elliott, Nathan Brown. That would have to be the worst run of coaches I can remember

Essentially you can’t get any good coaches based in Australia, so the Warriors might be better to get somebody from NZ, even Union if you have to.

That Dickson is a dope. He will annoy the wa govt. trying to work two places against each other

wa has more money being thrown at it than it looks like nz can. The interest from nz for this second license has been poor
Im thinking this guy is in need of a haircut...
Actually feel like he knows he'll get first dibs on being the 18th team as "the bears" but depends on the locality, so right now he is playing off WA against South island NZ, seeing what they can offer, personally should take whatever they can get, seriously its only the branding and juniors that they offer
