NRL's growth mindset points to 18th team. And it ain't Perth.

Personally I think we have 9 over a barrel going into the next broadcast negotiation. The AFL is now locked in and unavailable until 2031, 9 has its shiny new streaming service Stan with only the Union to show on it. They showed their desperation by offering the AFL $500M a year, none of this would of been missed by the commission.
I've read reports that say the negotiation will commence in 2025 for the next deal, I'd imagine we will be going to the table offering an 18th team and extra game. I'm more of the opinion that Perth is the frontrunner at the moment, with the Bears option and the fact the WA Govt is involved. Everything points towards a major increase in TV revenue for the NRL, starting in 2027 only 2 years after the AFL deal kicks in, and we don't need to have an equal deal as we have less expenses.
Glass half full!!

That is it. Perth Bears in the red and black the odd game in Sydney

Has the Perth Pathways sorted and you could sign NSW based Juniors, Have them finish school and play Flegg for NS on the weekends before moving over to Perth. This should be the model for expansion area clubs
Only way it works is a new company set up with a 80% WA consortium 20% Bears ownership split. 10/11 games in Perth. Rebrand of the Bears to West Coast with a nod to WA's 75 year RL history, Bears pathways feeding in with investment in WA pathways also (keep the Pirates brand for WA NSW cup and SG ball), agreement if above criteria not met or club doesnt work license goes back to NRLWA.

WA is incredibly parochial, it will not support a sydney club, therefore it will fail if its The Bears playing in Perth 75% of games. The game here simply cant afford another failure. With Twiggys billions in local Union and talk of a 3rd AFL team in years to come any failure of an NRL club will be it for the game here for decades to come. It took us 10 year to get back on our feet after the SL war, we lost 90% of registered players in that fall out!

hmm I wonder why? Maybe because they'd have to pay more? How's not having Perth working out for us? $402v$643!

Wtf?! Perth only adds value if TV pays for it. TV don't want it coz it doesn't add viewers.
Difference in TV is timing. Plus figures rubbery

Its ironic that after Smith got sacked for putting Nine before Fox and getting a cracking FTA deal we may come full circle!

the only thing that is rubbery is your head! TV wants metro reach. AFL has got metro reach. Afl is killing us in revenue. Lesson to be learnt? Increase our metro reach (and dont let Vlandys negotiate anything!)

If TV wanted that they'd demand Perth instead of Brisbane, but they wanted Brisbane 2 & were indifferent to Perth. U drawing false conclusion coz you want Perth team but TV doesn't. Fact check

Do you guys know what ur arguing?! Saying perth increases value but tv doesn't want it. Dumb

Do you know what you’re arguing? As a game, we just did what you proposed: gave Nine and Fox exactly what they wanted. What did we get in return: picayune increase on the Australian deal with the major increase coming from NZ.

It’s also inarguable that you get more money from a national product as opposed to a semi national product. It’s basic economic principles

That's what you say, but ppl paying aren't interested in Perth at all. You guys need better argument

So do you. Your argument is based on anchoring logic and a lack of critical analysis. Based on your argument, a business would never grow because customers who don’t have proper access to your product, don’t consume it, therefore we shouldn’t sell it to them. It’s a self defeating argument.

You still haven’t constructed an argument as to why we should follow what TV networks tell us if they are not going to pay us for it? Perhaps they want their partner to add teams that they don’t want to pay for

Also another argument: does a company earn more money from advertising if they sell nationally or if they sell to three states?

You cant argue with facts $402v$643.
Explain to us why NRL gets $12mill from Telstra for naming rights and AFL gets $21mill.
Why AFL is killing us in revenue despite both codes fanbases being equal in size.

AFL has 16 out of 18 teams in the 5 big Australian capital metro cities, NRL has 13/17 in 3 of them. Why did AFL put a team in western sydney rather than Tasmania?

Remind me again how much TV paid for Brisabne2? Heres a clue, nothing!

2023 THE Dolphins (snigger)
2027 West Coast Pirates
2032 Adelaide Bears (If bears havent been bought out by Roosters by then)
2035 South Brisbane Firehawks (Easts Tigers and Ipswich joint owned)

18 team NRLW by 2028

20 team comp by 2035 NRL and NRLW. That's the balls out approach the NRL needs right now!

Then if we really want to crystal ball gaze this will bring NRL untold riches and they can afford to fund a PNG and NZ2 team for teams 21& 22 in 2040 and go to two conference at that point.

Where do the players come from for this?

Where do the players come from for this?
It has to go hand in hand with player development and participation improvements. Player quality and depth is one of those unmeasurable and unquantifiable things.
Lets take Penrith as a great example. So for decades Penrith have had access to massive Jnr playing numbers. Some of the biggest in the world of RL. Yet its only in last few years that they have had large number of quality first teamers from local players. Why is that? Is it because more kids are playing? Nope the stats would argue the opposite. So it must be something else. What is it?
Well they decided to get serious about spending decent money on their Jnr elite programs and setting them up for success.
So my point is it isnt about the numbers, its about the systems. Invest in elite systems and the NRL clubs will reap the rewards. We have a stack of untapped sources: PNG, NZ, PI's, England, Qlnd still to some degree, WA, Victoria. All areas that could be yielding significantly more first graders with proper strategy and investment.

Pippen is correct

tv networks don’t want a Perth team

it’s a bid relying upon viewers in eastern states watching the extra game to add any tv value

nz2 is different as nz viewers are valuable in their own right then the arlc also has the extra game to sell to Australian broadcasters

from a tv rights pov nz2 is the clear front runner over Perth

We had fox over a barrel! Literally Vlandys told us they would have gone bust if they didnt get a deal with NRL. And what do we do? Gift them everything!
I mean if we aren't going to take that opportunity to finally get the deal we deserve then what makes you think we would any other time? At least whilst these Muppets are in charge!
