Usual Knights NRLW story of completely forgetting how to play in the second half. Every week with error after error coming out of our own end and sloppy defense when they just need to put the game away against inferior opponents.

We seem like we get ahead comfortably then just get lazy.

We'll be comfortably dispatched next weekend. We get worse at the point in each match where they get better.

It’s a good season given we lost the best player in the game + the best two props we have + a starting back rower and centre and replaced these players with middling vets and girls no one has heard of. Demonstrated the strength of the program and reconfigured everything around the halfback instead of the fullback very quickly.

Imagine if we were still basing our play off our fullback this year...

Is it just me or is BVW just not very good at all? She's still probably our best option there but jeez I'm not confident in anything she does.

I'm not nervous about her involvements. Because she isn't ever involved. Isn't fast, isn't strong, doesn't seem to do much at all. Compare that to some of the other flyers teams have at the back and we're at a disadvantage.

I reckon that girl we just signed from the Ipswich Jets is going to be groomed to play fullback. Development deal next year.

Bo is the experienced head to fill a hole in the meantime. She knows how to chime in in shape and has decent ball skills. She’s frustrating but we gave up so much to keep Tamika, yes it got us that second comp but it’s why we lost CJ, and in the long term we can’t win by playing the game like Brisbane and Easts. We need to be like Penrith. The future is in girls from Tarsha Gale and a sharp eye for girls like Giampino who Gus “the Bulldogs are a development club” Gould let slip through his hands so he could go big game hunting.

I'd like to think we can beat the Broncos but I'm far from confident.
I reckon we'll get steamrolled.
Hoping I'm wrong.
Regardless, they deserve our support.

Apparently Jesse is off to the Broncos and will announce it at the end of the season….

If this happens, I’m officially done with the NRLW and it confirms the competition is a joke
Honestly, likewise. I'll still support the Knights (from afar ... I live in Perth), but f**k me it'll be hard to have any interest in the NRLW comp if 'those two' teams just keep managing to buy all the top players from everyone else.

It'll be hard not to be furious trying to watch any womens game knowing what's happened to that comp. That they've just let it happen.

Well that will save me a tiny bit of money and time next year at least.

It's happening to every team besides those top two. The money they make from playing doesn't measure up to that made off the field from the corporate connections at those clubs. There's really very little in the way of rules around it. There's no "marquee player" rule like there used to be where they can just be paid whatever outside the cap, instead the club can arrange full time employment & other off-field opportunities. I'd imagine no matter what the Knights offer, Broncos/Roosters can probably just beat it. No coincidence that the Origin/Jillaroos reps we've held onto are ones with careers outside the game, Yazzie and Liv Higgins.

Congratulations NRL you've forced women's footy off the good road it was on and it's careening towards the edge of a cliff. You need at least some form of enforced parity, even if some clubs still have big advantages. Bigger and smaller clubs is a fact of sport but people will watch if they think their team has some chance at an upset. They won't if they know it's a waste of time.

Average crowd for standalone games was nearing 3,000 two years ago and the Knights set the record (12,689). Those crowds are trending down. Below 2,500 this season. If Abdo and the dim bulbs surrounding him don't do something it'll turn into as big of a joke as the AFLW.

This reminds me of when we'd argue that the Knights would get nowhere until they had a decent Club behind them. Those that did could pay the quality players.
Yes, I remember that even though I can't remember what I had for lunch.
If we lose her it's on the club for not getting a decent deal behind her. That rests with Gardner imo.

I mean, what can we realistically do? Jesse couldn't be any more Newcastle of all our players, born here, she was the club's first NRLW signing when she was only 14 years old. I can't imagine we haven't tried seriously to keep her, we've probably offered her the keys to the city and then some, we're not THAT stupid - we know she will probably go down as the best halfback to play women's rugby league.

I like the NRLW, but I really only watch our games due to time constraints. I'm not going to bother with it any more if we lose our home-grown generational player and I definitely won't be the only one. Interest will absolutely plummet, not just in our team, but in the entire competition if one of the competition heavyweights is just going to get ridiculously stronger. It'd be like Joey going to the Broncos in the late 90s/early 00s or if Cam Smith had joined the Roosters along with Cronk.

A lot of the NRLW media pundits just hand-wave this away as no big deal but they are kidding themselves (and probably Rooster/Sydney or Broncos/QLD fans) - they are absolutely rusted on fans of the game who will watch it no matter what, they aren't thinking of it in the context of a competition that needs to grow and attract fans.

They’re pledging to expand it again in the next few years too. Expect us to get raided more, Sharks, Dragons, Titans, etc, all looted. And Broncos/Roosters just stay as is.
