That pack is consistently good. Stef, Musgrove and Amone up the middle with Simpkins off the bench.

We’ve got 2 1st grade packs but only 2 1st grade backs. The club desperately needs to assemble a competent backline otherwise we will continue to be a bottom feeder.

I completely agree. We need to focus on quality backs.

There is a shortage of quality backs though, or they are stockpiled at the best clubs. Looking at some of the other clubs and their starting backlines for this round and there is plenty of trash in a lot of teams.

Magpies make it eight in a row

Western Suburbs Magpies have extended their winning run to eight in a row with a 36-22 win over Canberra Raiders at Lidcombe Oval.

With the likes of Shawn Blore, Jock Madden, Michael Chee Kam and Jake Simpkin all backing up from their respective NRL commitments on Friday, coach Ben Gardiner's side proved too good for the visitors despite their continued efforts.

The Magpies grabbed the first three tries of the match to take an early 18-0 lead before the Raiders scored the next two to reduce the deficit to 18-12.

Magpies hooker Jake Simpkin grabbed a crucial try just before half-time to givhis team a 22-12 lead at the break.

The Magpies grabbed the next two tries when play resumed to take a commanding 30-16 lead and never looked back from that point on.

Madden had a great day with the boot after landing all six conversions to keep the Magpies in second spot on the ladder.

Not that I want the game to be like rugby but gee it would be good if we could incentivise goal line defence in reggies and below. Some of this goal line defence outside of first grade in horrendous...

Very few good games to watch lately but a lot of it is between the ears too. Lots of clubs have players with no heart who don't want to do the hard work to adapt to the game. Look at BJ the dud, going went hard last year and he got fat and gave up, other players knuckled down and got on with it...
That's the people you want to sign. We are signing the give ups...
