Duges is a strong runner, no risk about it. But Queensland chew up and spit out strong runners. What is needed to bother Queensland is a bit of creative hole running like we saw in game 3 last year. The side that played that game should play game 1 except for Cordner and Merrin coming in.

For those of you who haven't seen a dragons game this year, it's worth keeping an eye on Jack De Belin.

NSW could do a lot worse than have JDB at 13.

He's been playing well, but I feel Trent Merrin will have the inside track for the lock spot somehow. Problem is second row and lock is one area NSW seem to have plenty of depth in so someone who has the ability may miss out.

I know Merrin is most likely, but if the selectors move away from their blinkered loyalty it'd be great to see JDB's form rewarded.

In the past 3 weeks he has easily been the best middle player on the field twice. And that has come against packs including Gallen, Fifita, Merrin and Tamou.

He's a good player but the amount of talent in the backrow is insane. Just to put things into perspective, a guy like Jake Trbojevic who's also been playing the house down and was a Kangaroo last year will probably miss out on origin this year.

I'd consider him on the bench.

You have to discard Merrin's run in that (Dragons) game. It was his first game of any kind since the four nations. Not that he's a certainty either. He was completely ignored last year but we all know that was punishment for leaving the Dragons.

That's magnanimous of you, but I think he'd be wasted on the bench. He's not an impact player. He's a guy who will give you 60 excellent minutes per game.

Selecting him on the bench would be a similar move to all those years of selecting Merrin on the bench.

He's a bloke that i think is selected at 13, or not at all.

Admittedly, haven't seen him this year but FMD, JDB?

Is he running 200+ metres per game or something? He must be doing something extraordinary to warrant selection after 3 games.

He's a really aggressive middle defender, always good for a 40+ solid tackles a game and when he hits he hurts.

His attack seems to have improved a fair bit this year too, wouldn't be out of depth in nsw I reckon

.

Merrin wasn't in the team last year, if his form continues from last year(he has been a bit off that pace to start this year) then Merrin is the best option for NSW at lock by a comfortable margin, he was last season as well but Gal....

If Merrin can recapture the form he showed last year I absolutely agree. Should be there at 13.

All I'm saying is that if Merrin continues to tank, and JDB keeps up his form, he should be considered.

Picking blokes on reputation has been a clusterf**k for a decade. Ironically, Merrin has suffered from this policy as much as anyone.

Merirn is tanking lol his current form still has him well ahead of any lock in nsw. He had one game where he was well below his best, now he is building towards his form from last season. 150m 44tk and 1 miss on the weekend.

Fair enough. I didn't watch you guys on the weekend. Didn't realise he was back to form. What sort of minutes is he playing?

Played 74 or 75 on the weekend. He isn't back to his peak form from last year but he isn't far off it imo. I don't disagree re JDB, he deserves to be in the conversation for sure but right now Merrin is a deserved front runner for the nsw 13 jumper imo.

Edit: Also re Merrin, I kind of expect his raw numbers to drop off a bit season due to our pack improving and taking some of that load off him.
