Klemmer is a behemoth. He’s been a bit down on form this season but still has the second highest post contact meters of all forwards in the game, higher then any forward that has been selected for either state. Klemmer has never really let NSW down, have you forgotten about his previous performances?
Meanwhile the likes of Paulo, Haas and Saifiti have yet to really stand up and deliver. Haas and Paulo were just about the two best props going into Origin last year and they didn’t exactly do anything noteworthy, Origin is a different level and I’d rather choose those that have delivered in the past rather then on form, unless it’s exceptionally bad.
As a knights fan I watch both Klemmer and Saifiti every week, whilst Klemmer will usually have better run metre stats Saifiti invariably has more of an impact. Despite what alot of people were saying I think Klemmer was really good last year, his run metres were up there but more importantly he added an offload and was up there with the most total offloads over the season, this year he seems to have put the offloads away and reverted back to his old style of dropping the hip on the 1st defender and then wrestling and fighting for post contact metres and invariably ending up on his back. Saifiti on otherhand always seems to either poke his nose through or at the very least bend the defensive line, finding his front and getting a quick play the ball. I would also argue Daniel Saifiti proved himself as a bona fide origin prop last year averaging 141m per game which I believe was the most amongst all forwards during last year's series

I would go with who they picked. Think they got it pretty right. Would have considered RCG on the bench for Liam Martin but you can’t blame them picking a few from Penrith
Yeah not sure about Martin but he deserves his chance based on form. I tend to agree with an earlier post that Jake T at starting prop is interesting. Understand that may change, but would always rather see Jake coming off the bench as a strike player

On further reflection I would have picked Finucane over Haas or Paulo, probably over Paulo moreso. He would have added some much needed defensive starch, organisational structure and intimidation in our middle third.

That was our biggest shortcoming in last year's series and I think Paulo and Haas while putting up good numbers aren't anywhere near as good as Finucane defensively.

It's a 17-man game now. #1 - 13 don't necessarily have to run out to start the match. Fittler could change it prior to game time.

I can't see Murray starting on the edge either. He won't have his usual impact and is no good to Damien Cook there. If he does, he'll have to get run in the middle towards the end of the first half. Cook relies on him so much. If Cook plays shit then NSW will lose so Fittler has to set up his forward rotation to suit him.
Murray will do well wherever he plays, I remember him having a couple MOTM quality performances as a makeshift center

You could probably put him at fullback and he would be above average

Hopefully the new rules interpretations are the death knell of Origin.

Time for State v State to be consigned to the quaint provincial concept of yesteryear that it is, and for international footy to take its rightful place as the true and only pinnacle of the sport.

No doubt, he can play well. Point is, his greatest impact is in the middle offering QPTB for Cook and his high effort in defence.

He's wasted as a hole or decoy runner on the edge getting his hands on the ball on fewer occasions. He's the player that will make the most difference to Cook's game.

Fittler has basically done in the forwards, what he has done in the backs.

As many #1's and 13's he can fit into the line up

For that to happen you need a reliable opponent who can defeat Australia at least 50% of the time. Maybe Tonga, Samoa, Fiji and PNG could form a West Indies type conglomerate. Such a side would seriously trouble Australia.

The issue is none of the top line players would defect to play for a bastardised side like that because it doesn't specifically represent their culture so you're not going to get guys like Luai, Papalii, To'o, Fifita, Tino, Coates, Saifiti, Paulo, Koraisau, Staggs etc

My main fear is our centres defensively again. Mitchell is a gun attacking player but his last game for blues he was a specialist centre for Roosters at the time and was carved up. Since then he has become a fullback and it's unlikely his defensive efforts would improve.

Turbo has never really been pressured defensively at centre. Like Wighton they won a series as centres 2 years ago. But then last year Wighton was exposed badly in centres.

That said it's exciting to see how Yeo, Cleary and Luai can link in the middle of the field with absolute beasts in Tedesco, Mitchell and Turbo to pass to. Honestly they don't need much of a gap to find a line break so offensively there's not much more we could do to improve the attack.

If the forward pack shows up. They should be right. If we get dominated again and are defending our line all game like game 3... Well i dont see fullbacks at centre withstanding that no matter how great they are at fullback.

Feel much better once Angus Crichton returns for Tariq Sims though. He was our best forward last year. The bar was low but he was outstanding still.
I don’t think it’s quite fair to say that Turbo has never been pressured defensively at centre in origin. He defended the right side covering centre and winger on his own when we were down to 12 men and did an outstanding job. 2019 maybe?

Anyways. I’m an unapologetic fanboy. I don’t think Turbos defense will let us down.

This article outlines why David Klemmer is purportedly on the outer with the NSW Origin hierarchy - https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/st...r/news-story/e6644ea5bac51e1ec9b659fa24ce748e

It would have to be something along these lines, because frankly I still think he is one of NSW's best props based on ability.

If it is the case, then good riddance. I've been around enough teams with a player like this, and they just suck the life and enjoyment out of the game, and the teams they were a part of didn't win. Definitely not the sort of player Bellamy and Ponissi recruit at Melbourne.

It also never ends well for the player himself, at the current club or any future destination.

Our forwards look a bit light on,was pangai available for NSW?
He's had some reasonable efforts, but plays for a team who get flogged most weeks. We've already got one of their forwards, that's enough risk.
