Just wondering, I had a guy at work ask me the other day, for the West Sydney Blues or Cumberland Beavers, what's the criteria needed to play for those teams. Which universities or TAFE institutions are affiliated to those two teams and is it compulsory to be students at those institutions? Cheers

any one can play in the tertiary league you dont have to be a student, but each club need to have 60% students from uni, tafe etc, so if he is it would help.
west sydney blues are at st marys and represent nsw police students
cumberland are at parramatta and represent syd uni cumberland campus at lidcombe
also you dont have to go to that uni to play for them, eg you could go to uts or uws and play for cumberland
not that i am biased or anything but he should definately play for the mighty cumberland beavers!

Thanks Beaver, legend. He's actually a TAFE affiliated apprentice working with us, I'll pass that info along to him. I appreciate it mate, cheers. Now I'm interested to keep up with this thread and check out this competition.

Do you have to be a student to be picked in the rep sides?

to play in the nsw v qld game u need to be a current full time student at uni, tafe college etc.. an aussie side is picked from that. but you can be playing in any competition eg bundy red.

the city v country game is open to any one playing in the tertiary league competition

the end of season nsw tertiarys tour (we go places like japan, serbia etc) again is open to anyone playing in the tertiary league

Cheers. Myself and some mates are considering coming to play in this comp this year over from the regular Sunday A Grade comps we've been playing in. How is the country side picked who plays the city side? By that i mean, is the city side based with players from the full tertiary league playing against a rep side from group 6, 7, etc?

the tertiary league has teams in it from around the state eg bathurst and newcastle, so both the city and country sides are picked from within the comp, you have to be playing in the tertiary league to be eligible but you dont have to be a student.

the teams are split into city and country, and the players are picked on what team they play for...not where they were born/ grew up. eg if some one was born in tamworth but plays for cumberland they are eligible for city. a sydney born person playing for bathurst would be eligible for country.

PM me and ill send you some details
come and join the beavers... we the best!

That's great! Where did the NSW tertiary boys go last year? And how did they pull up with the results?

they didnt go away this season i think cause they couldnt get timing right, but will be on again this year but dont know where yet.
The tour is a development tour aimed at helping developing league so always go interesting places.

Beaver, when does training start for the Cumberland sides? Another thing, if a player has previously been registered with a Penrith junior rugby league club. would he still need to get a transfer if he wanted to switch to a team in the tertiary league? Beaver, if you could kindly send your club details to my mail box, I'd appreciate that mate. Thanks
