NSWRL Competitions for 2007

Well 2007 sees some pretty significant changes to the NSWRL competitions. Whilst the all these changes are not yet known and there could be a few more surprises still to be announced, I thought I'd start putting together a thread
of what ones we do know that are happening, and what we think could be happening which we can add to.

Premier League:
South Sydney and North Sydney will form an alliance and compete as the North Sydney Bears
St Mary's-Penrith Cougars will return to being just Penrith Panthers
Central Coast Rip will (most likely) enter the Premier League competition

Jim Beam Cup:
Shellharbour Sharks to enter the competition (Application confirmed and CRL approved, just waiting on NSWRL to sign off)
St Mary's expected to join the competition
Seven Hills expected to join the competition

Good thread.

What's the set up at Shellharbour? Do they have a licensed club or are they like simply ambitious like Belrose or Sydney Bulls?

Shellharbor is really taking off. The population down there das increased drastically over the past 5 years with all the new housing developments.

Its good that the Jim Beam Cup is starting to include some more teams. This should rectify the constant BYE situation that we saw this season.

Wonder if they are linked to the St George ILLAWARRA Dragons. ???

Shellhorbor has a HUGE club but can't recall if it a leagues club or a Workers club. Think the one I am thinking about is a Workers Club. Growing up in Engadine we used to go down there some weekends and get on it and go to the club which used to have some good live bands. Then surf all day at The Farm break......

Big comp on the south coast and plenty of quality juniors. They should be very competable actually. Surely an Illawarra/Dragons feeder side ???

RLR today mentions Greenacre entering a team and I heard Chester Hill may as well. Count the Bulls and that's three teams in a very small patch of land.

Rugby League Review says that Guilford and Blacktown City are also looking at joining Jim Beam Cup along with Shellharbour, St Marys and Greenacre.

It also says that Newtown may be pulling out of the Jim Beam Cup and that Erina and The Entrance are considering playing in the Newcastle competition.

RLR also says:
Talking of the Roosters, don't be surprised if their relationship with the Newtown club finishes at the end of the season in order for the club to field their own Premier League side.

Erina lodged its application for 2007 Jim Beam last week.

The Entrance claimed they were waiting until confirmation at club's annual meeting last sunday.

The danger for those two clubs is that Paul Stringer has been appointed captain coach of Wyong for 2007 and as they are running next to last this year in the Newcastle comp, he has said that he has prepared a hit list of players in both Sydney and the Central coast.

Applications for Jim Beam closed on 31 July.

I for one hopes that the feeder agreement ends sooner rather than later. Nothing against the Chooks, they have been great towards the Newtown club, I believe that the Newtown club should stand alone and field it's own PL team. Understand that the quality of players will be reduced as there won't be a direct link to the NRL, but I'd rather the Jets not have to answer to a NRL club.

Financial constraints speak volumes. Unless we have the money there is a lot we cannot do. Anyway, the Chooks deal is loads better than what Cronulla wanted.

As for the dirty RLR rumour, it is just that. Typical that it is in "The Detective" column. If it were a real story, it would be in a real newspaper.

The Jim Beam Cup is acctually looking an exciting prospect next year with some of these new teams pushing to join, plus the return of the likes of St Mary's and Guilford.

Idealy for the Jim Beam Cup to be taken seriously, it needs to grow to about 12 - 14 teams. If as well if it had representation on the Central Coast, Newcastle, Illawarra/South Coast, Southern Highlands, Blue Moutains/Bathurst region and each district league in Sydney was represented, it would be a great competition.

The new TV deal with Fox Sports (I know the clubs are underwriting it) for the JBC I think may go a long way to filling all those key areas with more and more clubs looking for the exposure. Its also interesting to note that with the Fox Sports deal, that if ratings reach a certain level this year, Fox Sports will underwrite a lot of the costs next year.

I was planning on watching the fox broadcast but will be in Perth for work and will miss it... grrrrr.

To round off the jim Beam cup... the West Belconnen Warriors need to sign up.... although travel could be a killer

In your farkin dreams HPH. That is a totally stupid thread mate. Players are attracted by the FACT that they MAY play NRL. In the perfect world cobber, but we cannot afford to do this as a club as previous seasons ( when last minute dumped ) by Souths has proven. Wooden spons shall result otherwise !!! I for one am totally happy that we are combined with the ONLY original side still remaining in the NRL and it's a fricken cryin shame that they have been inundated by injury in season 2006 as they would have been in the eight for sure.

Total nonsense thread mate !!!! wake the f**k up !!!! We need this combination to survive as players want to progress and are attracted by that FACT !!!! And an original club like the 998 wins since Rugby League was originally formed makes me Fricken proud mate. ( Could definately go further but thinking you were definately pissed when this was posted by you brother. Ridiculous !!!! :fist: :fist: :fist: :-k  ) Thought you would know better !!!!
