NSWRL Wests and BRET

Because we are a JV. It's not about who can fund what, if we decide to run with one state cup side, then it's only fair that it is a JV team.

My issue is not about the name of the JV side, it's about doing it in the first place and reducing our talent pool, whilst spitting on our history.

& I wouldn't be so certain on any of those other statements regarding Western Suburbs if I were you ;-)

I hope both survive, love watching the Jets play the Magpies for the TR cup and enjoy visiting Leichhardt oval - for me though it should be Balmain Tigers to keep the name alive.
But Western Suburbs are my second team in the NSW Cup and I would be upset if they disappeared, they deserve to be back in the NRL more than the bloody North Sydney Bears!!!

If Balmain don't exist as Balmain I'll be utterly heartbroken.

Do they exist above SG Ball level now?

They're run under a merged name, with a funding from a random pokie palace by WT staff. Would another re-branding really make a difference?

As a Balmain supporter, I will always support the Tiges. One of the reasons you would think Balmain merged with Wests was the fact the growth centre in the South West is a production line of talent. The WTs are now starting to tap into the talent and with further growth occuring, the future for the WTs, Wests and Balmain is very good. All available resources should be spent in the South West and Balmain junior districts to maximise our output of talent. Savings made in one area could be diverted backt to junior league. That can only be good for all clubs.

Of course it will. They may be a merged identity, but it's still essentially Balmain.

In my opinon the entire club should be merged. We have to move away from Western Suburbs and Balmain. There is too much conflict of interest and most of it seems to be coming from the Wests side of the deal.

What is wrong with the Western Suburbs juniors and Balmain junior rugby league right up to state cup then NRL level being run under a Wests Tigers banner?? It then gives the club an identity of it own and it ensure only the best players progress through the ranks.

Surely the Wests Tigers brand is big enough to sustain a market place through out the entire league structure as it currently stands.

Why have 4 or 5 good players in an otherwise ordingary team when you can combine them into one team and have 7 or 8 good players

As an outsider. 1 NSW Cup team is the way to go.

I will give an example your number 7 gets injured. NSW Cup team 1 beat the last place team. Team 2 loses a close 1 against the best team. Who is next in line?? ! played a rubbish team and carves up. 1 goes alright against stronger opposition (Closer to NRL conditions).

From what I have read this is why Sheens wants 1 Feeder team. It would be hard to check out the fringe players prob why I few fall through the cracks and go elsewhere

The setup will be playing as direct shadows for the NRL squad. Therefore is the left winger gets injured than Sam Latu will be called upon. etc etc.

That makes sense instead of trying to work out which of 2 to play a straight swap with the feeder team will be so much easier

As an outsider, it seems to me that two sides are the way forward. Just look at the results of the State Cup year with both BRET & Wests making the semi's.

I remember when the merger votes happened one of the main points was to keep the identities of Balmain & Wests alive in what is now the State Cup, and I reckon that it'd be such a shame to lose these great names. Sure most kids who follow WT's now only follow 'em know a world of Wests Tigers, but by having the Balmain and Wests names still running around in the State Cup it provides a very real link to the histories that make up the WT's.

Again, why would you halve our junior base?

In a sense it's not about halving the junior base it's about ensuring the club keep the cream of the crop kids who have a realistic chance making it to first grade which is what the idea of a "reserve grade" side is isn't it?

Look westie I've been a Magpie all my life. The number of times I made the trip to Campbelltown (Lidcombe was before my time) and watched our team through the tough times would make a normal person think I am mad but that is what passion is about. But then there comes a time when you have to realise what has become of our club and the path that has been chosen.

Balmain and Wests did the right thing, they saved each other to be honest. Now it's time to finalise the deal and create a club with a 200 combined year history as one. Sure we have to remember our past and the players that made the two clubs the identities they became but it's also time to start writing the future as well.

With 2 NSW Cup teams you have alot more room to keep Toyota Cup players who will be too old to play Toyota Cup the following year.

Franklin you said "That makes sense instead of trying to work out which of 2 to play. a straight swap with the feeder team will be so much easier".
Well you pick the player that is playing better. It's not rocket science.
