players get named in say 1 jersey but might play number 9 is there any rule from say naming a front rower in the fullbacks jersey or naming the eniter team backwards like fullback in 13 and so on

And what would be the point of doing that???

A better question is why are the forwards numbered backward, and why did we change when we had them in the right order?

i doubt there is...
it might just be to create order and stop people fighting over numbers?
im still not sure why they changed the numbers from the old days.

who knows? maybe we will start seeing NFL style numbering in the future?

If they do have their own numbers and their name on the back it could create a lot more revenue for the NRL as people may consider getting more than 1 jersey, it works very well in the U.S.

If I remember rightly it was to coincide with the international/northern hemisphere numbering system.

Prior to 1989 all Australian teams with the exception of the international team would use a unique numbering system confined only to Australia. The numbers for the backs were exactly the same as they are now but the numbers were different in the forward pack. Under this old numbering system the lock/loose forward would be number 8, the second rowers were 9 and 10, the prop forwards were 11 and 13 and the hooker was 12.

Which leaves the question .. why did England change?

An "innovation" of Super League in the UK & Aust - the players were allowed to choose their own number, and have their name across their back/shoulders - part of the idea that it would help sell more jerseys. The Aust SL club teams in 1997 also used this system. Melbourne Storm also had player names on their jerseys in their first seasons.

(Or was your question in regard to the English method of numbering forwards?)
