NYC and its role in future expansion

If the NRL plans on expanding in the coming years they must make plans for it very soon.
As seen in the AFL, expansion in an already large competition can be tricky, with both new franchises stuck at the bottom of the ladder.
The NRL has a tight salary cap in place to help spread the talent, but one criticism expansion has, is the NRL doesn’t have the player talent to cope with more teams.
I have always disagreed with this comment. More teams means more players in England can come back home. Two extra teams with squads of 25 could bring a lot of home grown talent back to our shores.
Not every single player in the squads will be established talent. Where will the juniors come from? Hopefully the following will outline necessary steps I believe the new commission should take quickly to help make the game grow smoothly.
First and foremost the NYC should be raised to at least under 21′s, with serious consideration for under 23′s.
The current under 20′s system is fine for outside backs, but half backs and especially forwards could use a couple more years to develop. This has been something Gus Gould had harped on about for a while and I wish someone at the ARLC would listen to him.
Secondly the NRL needs to decide what areas will receive a franchise and allow them to start NYC competition immediately.
Juniors within the area need to see the growing pathway to the NRL, just as much as the teams need their junior talent more developed then they otherwise would have been.
Talent pool for sports is often described as a pyramid. The more talent you have at the grass roots level, the more your able to have above that and above that.
I feel if a new NRL team had at least two years to run an NYC team it would give them a great head start in the NRL for their debut season.
A head coach could scout junior talent himself and have a better role in moulding the team himself very early on.
The NYC team could be loaded with players the coach felt would go on to play NRL later on, no matter what their age.
Central Coast and Western Australia already have teams in the SG Ball competition, it would seem natural to grow what seeds are already in place.
The more talent we have playing in the under 20′s will help the NRL.
Tell me what you think, good idea or bad?
