Former Kiwis league player Clinton Toopi is keen to force his way into the All Blacks.
The 29-year-old will turn out for the Bay of Plenty Steamers in this season's Air New Zealand Cup.
Toopi says his first priority is to play well for the Steamers. He says he does not want to look too far ahead but if it comes up then it would be a big goal for him.
He has played a few trial games and is feeling more and more comfortable as he plays.
Toopi says he had a couple of offers to return to the NRL and the English Superleague but was keen to continue pursuing a rugby career.
Despite the Warriors appearing to need an experienced centre, Toopi says he has had no contact from his former club.

Wow, he was obviously given some extremely leading questions. No point in laughing at the guy for setting high goals. If I was the Steamers, I'd want him to bust his guts out every week, too.

How fickle are we.

The only difference defensively between Ropati and Toopi is at least Toopi stood in the right spot and kept in line with his defenders (sometimes), it was just he a weak tackle technique. Ropati is a great tackler IMO, but he is so far out of position most times its appalling to watch. At the moment, Ropati and the previous la-la Toopi are making blokes like Tony Martin seem like godsends.
