Mako sharks are Sharky's favorites. They are a beautiful blue to silver to white in coloring and are very sleek-looking. They are a highly sought-after gamefish and are extremely fast swimmers. There are apparently no reported unprovoked attacks on humans by Makos.

I found this discription of a Mako and thought I would check with it's namesake on here to see if he fits the make up of his character.

beautiful............
sleek-looking.....
fast swimmers...

the last one is the one that worries me

no reported unprovoked attacks on humans by Makos.

Much of this was true 30 years ago.

Now the parts that remain true are:

White
Sleek
Swim

There is the occassional unprovoked attack but I am getting old and cranky

Frenzy.

It's all lies

Mako was well spotted by Nulla #2 on beer hill and identified as "The Assassin"

I know reefy holds him in fear!

Beware

Makos along with great whites are the oceans true athletes. Makos can swim bloody fast and can leap 20 feet into the air out of the drink.

Great whites can do the same. I think I am correct in saying they, along with the Great white are 2 of only 3 Warm Blooded shark species in the world, they also have a fantastic naturally built heating system that allows them to remain about 20 degress fahrenheit warmer than the water they swim in, that basically spells trouble for the cold blooded, lethargic fishies that swim in the cold climate waters when the makos and great whites rock into town !

Mako Shark (Isurus oxyrinchus or glaucus)

I am white, fairly sleek looking, can swim fast and don't attack humans unprovoked. Missed out on the beautiful bit though!!

Yes but what about the blacktip-reef shark?

General Description
Blacktip Reef is the common name for about ten related species of sharks all found in temperate oceans. The body is blue-gray in color - darker in color than most sharks - and they move so beautifully in the water. They are quite small and not considered really dangerous. The Black-Tipped Reef Shark has a well defined black tip to its dorsal fin and its lower tail fin and grow to about 5 feet. They like shallow water around reefs and they will sometimes jump over shallow coral, coming right out of the water, frequently sighted on the Great Barrier Reef. They are often attracted by splashing and will sometimes come up to a snorkler to see what's going on. The Australian Aborigines used to catch them by splashing the water to get them excited and then throwing in a baited hook. By tagging these sharks, researchers have found that they rarely move very far from an area. They usually breed in November-December. They often eat fish but are well known to also eat land-based snakes probably found in the mangroves. They are not regarded as dangerous but have been known to bite the fins and ankles of snorklers on shallow reefs -- more a hazard than a real danger. This shark prefers clear shallow water.
