Observations from XXXX territory....

Yes, all the people who were expecting something else with the 'XXXX' thingy can leave now :)
Well, i just got back from the sun and surf that is Queensland. I hadn't been up there for a few years, and i was amazed at just how much development has gone on up there in recent years! I actually spoke to someone who said that the population of Brisbane would overtake Melbourne within 10yrs! More specifically, i was at Marrochydore for a wedding. It was a good night, to say the least ;)
However, i did take the time to take a look at the media up in QLD and how RL is portrayed in it. I must say, alot of what Willow and Johnsy have said is quite true. The number 1 sport is clearly league, although there does seem to be a fair amount of support for AFL and Union as well. It was strikingly similar to Sydney, the media plays a big part in pushing AFL and Union. I did read one little article in the courier mail (i think) that 'speculated' that Alfie was switching to union...hello chequebook/agenda journalism. I wouldn't say that the bias is at the same level that it is in Sydney, although i would be careful to ensure that the same crap doesn't end up happening up there.
I went to a pub up there and they had basically EVERY league jersey around the walls. It was amazing, they had everything from the Dragons to the Crushers! It was quite refreshing to see both the AFL and RL friday night game on the tele up at a club and almost all of the people there watching the footy.
I ended up missing a fair bit of the wedding reception cause it was on the same night as the doggies game...but it was only the reception, and most people were 'a tad disorientated' by the time the footy came on :)
Overall, it was good to spend some time back in Queensland. Catching a 20 seater plane from Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast was quite a memorable experience, if a little nerve racking lol
Cheers all,
MFC.
