Hi guys i need some info here please.

The Raiders are expected to announce 2 signings from the ESL next week, and i am just wondering if anybody knows who is off contract in the ESL. I expect it to be an ex-NRL player coming home (like De Vere) but I dont really know who is available

Any listings would scratch my itch!

Thanks,

Ian Hindmarsh has just been released by Catalans and he'd be an obvious choice. Sean Rudder would be the other Aussie at Catalans on the outer. Nathan Blacklock will come home and might look for one more year though I doubt any club will be interested. Mark O'Neill's contract won't be extended at Leeds so he will be coming home. Pat Richards will leave Wigan. There was talk of Brent Grose coming back to Australia but I don't know what's going on there. There's probably quite a few more but they will all be the wrong side of 30 too.

Ian Hindmarsh has now signed with Parramatta. Nathan Blacklock has mentioned retiring after this season because of a continual knee problem. Mark O'Neill has similarly been plagued by injuries.

I'd say the most likely would be Vaealiki and Richards leaving Wigan, heard Danny Nutley was looking to come back from Castleford, but also keep an eye on Wakefield players keen to flee as their side looks relegation bound. David Solomona would be the pick of the bunch there if he wants to return closer to home. Also Denis Moran might look to come back if Widnes don't get promoted to Superleague.

Chris Beattie is returning to Australia, could it be him ?
I read Brent Grose's column in the Warrington Guardian and he said he is happy at Warrington and wants to stay.

It has been a strange season in Super League as most of the Australian imports seemed to have struggled massively.

The likes of O'Neil, Richards, Paalesina, De Vere, Donald, Vaeliki, Hindmarsh etc etc all seemed to have pretty good reputations when they left the NRL. They haven't been a success in Super League.

Danny Nutley, Brad Drew and Jason Cayless are a few notable success stories, but I think the old adage of an NRL player being an automatic good buy is long gone. Even players who have played Origin are not safe buys, and it seems to me that if the NRL upped the salary cap to prevent the gap between NRL and SL, we could cut out pretty much all of the panic buying by Super League clubs.

There was a little bit in todays paper about Grose and it looks like he is going to Melbourne, i'm amazed at the amount of contracts which are not being fulfilled these days.

Danny Nutley is a strange one, he signed a contract extension and 2 weeks later asks for a release.

If you are talking about Nutley's contract with Castleford, it relates to the age old problem of players bringing their wives with them when they move to England.

Nothing scandalous, just his misses hankering after her family and not being able to cope with the mean streets and erratic weather in Castleford.

The RAiders have signed Dunemann and Scott Logan.

How have these guys been going?

Quite surprising...

Are there any NRL players that have signed with English clubs, and are playing so bad that they have been dropped to reserve grade/senior academy ?

Several ex NRL players have been dropped to Academy league this year, the most notable being Pat Richards, David Vaealiki, Michael Sullivan, Mark O'Neil Mark Tookey, Junior Langi and Danny Lima.
