Justice Woods has given his ruling on the appeal against Hindmarsh's ban from the 7s. Seems Hindmarsh will miss the 7s and the first trial game as part of his suspension.

From the article it appears our defence was not that Hindmarsh should be suspended for either the 7s or the first trial BUT THAT THE FIRST GAME OF THE 7s SHOULD COUNT FOR HIS SUSPENSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fitzy was trying to be a smart*** and the thing blew in his face......WRONG ARGUMENT FITZY.......

If that case is a fact, it is very disappointing that Fitzgerald could be both that naive AND stupid. (and greedy for that matter)

Probably not, but you would expect better from a person of his experience.

Typical NRL Joke Judicary how can 1 game ban = missing all the Sevens plus the Trial

Fitzy had the right argument, for a normal court ..but not for the kangaroo court #-o

A quote from the article attributed to Justice Woods' findings:

"It would be an absurdity, and it is not what the Code intends, if a player who is outed for five matches in the NRL competition can serve out the suspension by sitting on the sideline at a Sevens tournament in January. That context of absurdity and unreasonableness makes the argument in the submission untenable."

The question I ask then, is this......

From this statement, Justice Woods clearly identifies counting 7s games towards a suspension as absurd. Why then is he suspending Hindmarsh from the tournament?

Similarly, if a player commits an act of foul play in the tournament, will his suspension count towards NRL games? From this statement, it is clear that 7s and the NRL are two non-interchangeable forms of the game.

Considering he shouldn't have been suspended in the first place for a good solid effort the Judicary should be upgrade from a status of "Joke" to "Utter Joke".

Stuff the judiciary.

Organise a trial game sometime this week - against the Parra Power if we have to.

Nathan will then be free to play.

And the NRL have the audacity to say they may not let clubs participate if they name a bunch of nobodies

IMO the judiciary and the way players are charged or not charged is easily the worst thing about the NRL. The whole system has to be scrapped and overhauled as I haven't met anyone that thinks it isn't a joke.

The Judicary has got it spot on I can't argue with that answer,Fitzy on the other hand gave the wrong arguement, then again didn't we hire a lawyer??. We should of argued that the trial and not the sevens be inlcuded in the suspension.

I agree that its a stupid decision by the NRL. How can the Sevens be classifed as an NRL event when there are teams from all around the world competing. But i guess the main thing is that he will be right to play for Rnd 1 V Bulldogs.

Colin Love talked about wanting the clubs to take the 7's seriously this decsion shows the NRL judicary don't take the 7's seriously as they are still forcing Hindmarsh to miss a trial match meaning that according to Woods the 7's isn't even = to a trial game.

Once the NRL takes the 7's seriously then the clubs might follow.

This decision is exactly as I suspected. Doesn't mean I wanted it that way, or that I think the judiciary doesn't need one big overhaul in terms of other matters.

But asking for a 15 min 7-a-side game to serve as a one match suspension was never going to cut it, Denis! Hindy is out of the Sevens NOT because it is seen as an NRL event, but because he is a player for an NRL team entering the Sevens who has yet to serve out his current suspension.

If Denis and the club had organised an NRL-sanctioned trial match before the Sevens, that could have served as a suspension for Hindy. But who wants to play a full trial in January? I don't think any club schedules trials for before the Sevens tournament.

It's just a tournament that Hindy has to miss, and he'll be back in the second trial game. I'm just glad that his suspension doesn't count him out of the first "real" game in round one! The Eels Sevens team is strong, and we should be there in the final at least!!
