Jones to coach Reds
Sportal
The Queensland Reds have announced the appointment of former Wallabies mentor Eddie Jones to the role of head coach commencing at the end of the inaugural Super 14 season.
Jones was widely tipped to be offered the role after being released by the Australian Rugby Union as Wallabies coach at the conclusion of the team's disappointing spring tour of Europe.
Queensland Rugby CEO Theo Psaros said Jones' experience gave him the edge over a host of other applicants and believed he would fit in comfortably at the Reds.
"This is a real coup for Queensland Rugby." said Psaros. "He's a motivated coach, hes looking for a challenge and sees a golden future here at the QR Queensland Reds."
While Jones' three-year deal officially starts at the end of the 2006 season, he will work with High Performance Manager Dr Bob Murphy on long-term planning and player recruitment.
"Eddie sees this as a great opportunity to work with the best talent in Australia and is looking forward to the challenge of achieving QRUs goal of consistently being the best performing provincial team in Australia, Murphy said of the appointment.
Jones is currently holidaying in Japan but said he was 'delighted to be coaching the Reds' and is looking forward to the challenges the role presents.
