Official NSW side

Actually I just had a look at the side for game 1 last year and this team shits all over that one. Last year's team had Gidley at FB, Tahu, Lyon at 5/8th, Kimmorley, Ennis, Waterhouse, Josh Perry and Brett ****ing White. It's a wonder we didn't lose by 50

Honestly King, no Hayne and Ennis over Farah are the only really terrible decisions. The rest at least have some merit even if it's not perfect

Why the f**k is Watmong not in the side?!? He has stood head and shoulders above every backrower we've had in the blue since he made the side.

All this be like QLD bs, so we drop Watmong cos he takes a piss outdoors and Stick doesnt like him, Hayne for Dugan who isnt ready and cant play injured, and we still f**k around with merkin Ennis instead of getting Farah in there and keeping him there.

This is a joke of a selection. Does Stick really think Hayne won't be a feature of future origin sides? Seriously? Who cares if he's a knob and has a bad attitude, so does GI, he's got to play. Stick really think Ennis will hold Farah out for the next few years? f**k... I thought it was a side of the future..

Watmough and Hayne robbed, gg Qld.

Two players who have troubled the Qld'ers in the past, not to mention the latter who on form, is arguably the best player in the NRL!

Have to lol at reactions to Jason King in this thread, my thoughts exactly.

Having looked over the team, the only thing that comes to mind is that the selectors have tried to put together players that are primarily noted for their work rate and defence. The balance of attacking flair is quite low, as noted.

To me what this suggests is that Stuart and the selectors are going in with the notion that players who are well drilled defensively can be taught a game plan that is relatively simple, using the time they would ordinarily use on defence techniques to practice their attacking plays.

Whether or not this will work is anyone's guess. It is not a tactic I would have gone for, but if Queensland are ever going to be vulnerable to it, that weakness will be in game one, before they click and perhaps with some of their better players ruled out through injury.

Go into game two at home, with a psychological edge if you win, and who knows what can happen?

Abysmal though Stuart is as a long-term coach, he does a reasonable job with the short turn-around. So we shall see what happens after the Queensland team is named.

At least this year players are being selected in their positions and there are two props on the bench. That alone is a step forward.

Can someone please tell me why Bob Fulton is still allowed to have a say on selections... Jason King  if he really had to pick a Manly player why not Watmough, rather then a creampuff like King.

Kingy's alright... not really rep standard and I reckon Galloway needs a run out there but he wont let anyone down.

Who is this Merrin character.. he alright or what? Isnt he some bench warmer for the saints?

What happened to TLL? still injured? Thought we were better in the props

Look thats a terrible team, and I cant see how anyone could suggest otherwise.

For the last 3 years all NSW have been saying is how they need to be more like Qld in everything they do, from the bottom-up, blah blah blah. So what do they do... the one player who has actually played well for them in the last 5 losing series, and who was unanimously declared the best in the game only 2 years ago is dropped. For someone who has played about 3 games this year, most of which have been average at best. Wasnt everyone complaining that they need to pick a solid spine and just stick to it. I cant believe they would drop hayne, its almost the equivalent of qld dropping slater or hodges..

Secondly, Ennis. Seriously, how much say can the media possibly have in picking a team. He does about 75 interviews per week (yeah farah does quite a lot as well i guess) but i honestly struggle to find anyone that actually thinks hes a good football player (and while we're at it, anyone that thinks he isnt the worst human being in the entire planet) and yet presumably hes got another 3 games this year to add to his resume. Hes the least toughest player in the entire league...by a length, yet he gets picked for his "origin toughness" or whatever and is completely lacking in every other skill that is required to be a competent footballer. For f**ks sake, hes so bad. At least hoepfully farah will finally go back to just focusing on playing club footy rather than trying to weasel his way into the team.

Thirdly, King. What the f**k.

Fourthly, for those people saying, "hey at least its better than last year" or "at least players are playing in their proper positions".... bullshit. You lost last year 3-0...youd better f**king hope this team is better. And your front row has King, Ennis, Merrin.. when it could have had tolman, farah, TLL. I actually thought this week that NSW probably has the players this year to cause an upset and that I might have a look at the odds for a 2-1 NSW win... but with the f**king shit dished up tonight by stuart, its 3-0 Qld. Thurston , lockyer, smith, slater could almost beat that team on their own.

Ok I've vented some of my rage, and if NSW win ill definitely look like a goose...but f**k me that team sucks.

Maybe Stuart sees Dugan as the long term future for that spine, and not Hayne. Dugan is a more traditional fullback that you know you'll probably get another 5-10m off the kick return off over Hayne (unless some Hayne razzle dazzle results in a break). Field position is pivotal in Origin, something that is somewhat a flaw in Haynes game (he positions himself poorly for kick returns, and doesn't really run with any purpose when he does have it).

This team looks like it has more clearly defined roles and went for the team mentality over just picking individuals who were flashy. I would have had Tolman in for King and Mullen in over Pearce. Apart from that, the side is reasonably solid. Dugan works better in the team role-based approach over Hayne. Whether that is the right decision remains to be seen.

Bennett rates carney/mullen as a halfback , yet nsw still picks one of the worst halfbacks going around

There are too many players from out of form sides. Confidence will be an issue:

Dugan
Jennings
Uate
Pearce
Bird
Snowden

That's almost half the starting side. FFS
