I wouldn't swap Mckinnon out of fullback.

He prevents alot of tries (especially his shoulder charges) which I think Burt would not be able to.

I just wished Burt would look for the ball more. He could be a Matt Bowen with his footwork and speed and running off forwards in 2nd phase play.

Switch Langi (I wished it was Ben Smith or O'Dwyer) to Left centre and Burt right centre.

When Widders comes on. He is soo damn wide on the right side of the attack that the right centre or right winger becomes obsolete. Then Burt can rove around a bit more looking for offloads from the forwards.

I still go back to this backline - young it maybe but it could be more than plausible....

1.McKinnon
2. Tahu
3. Graham or Smith
4. O'Dwyer
5. Grothe

I went back and watched Burts' first game of first grade on video the other night when we played the Dragons at Telstra in 1999 (we woin 20-10...Jason Smith had a blinder....Cayless got medicabbed off after 7 mins). He was bloody quick but was built like a bowl of water.

It looks as though he has sacrificed speed for bulk to stay in our top grade.

Not saying he is not quick but he couldn't get away with what Bowen does in the acceleration stakes anymore.

Delaney.... :-k Interesting.

It appears thin......and you did put the caveat 'if the team was chosen tomorrow'.

So I'll look ahead to next year.....if Ben Smith lands on his feet in first grade, Luke O'Dwyer shows what he can do and Ashley Graham gets some confidence back and finds form, maybe it wont look so thin?

I'd cut Langi Misty.

He has been alright in patches this year, but I think we need more penetration in the centres next year. Tahu will help.....and hopefully Burt/Graham/Smith/O'Dwyer can step up.

NNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Not Burt #-o Please.

the only reason why I've chosen Burt ahead of the others mentioned is because no other player has a proven track record in first grade and in that position.

As I said earlier Luke has had about 90 odd first grade games and clearly this early in the picture I wouldn't have anyone else ahead of him.

thats not to say I won't change my mind before the seasons out.

I agree with your way of thinking. With Vaealiki gone we are going to have a backline lacking in experience. I'd have Burt on the wing but I think he'll probably stay in the centres. That's not such a bad thing, when he plays well he's too good to waste on the wing. We just need something special from him more often.
