Sorry to do this but i have to ask a question that no doubt has been talked about an endless amount of times in other threads that i just haven't been able to spot, but who is the club Cronulla Cobras merged with in the NSW Cup? Is it just a local Cronulla team or...?

The 'Cronulla Cobras' competing in the NSW Cup next year were fomrerly known as the 'Barden Ridge Cobras'... The JBC side is a local A-Grade side, Cronulla-Caringbah, which I believe have been around since before the Cronulla Sharks.

Cronulla Caringbah were the Second Division team that the Sharks application in 1967 was based on. At the time CC's colours were brown and yellow and the Penrith team wore blue and yellow. As it was expected that Wentworthville and Cronulla would be the 2 teams promoted, Cronulla decided to adopt blue, black and white. When Penrith got the nod they had to change colours and chose brown and white.

There is a great story about how in the 40's Penrith played in blue jerseys all year and in the week before the grand final, Mrs Cartright sewed the white vees on.

Wenty's other near miss with the big time came in 1996 when both Norths and Manly turned down the "Sydney North" franchise in Super League. This was then offered to Wenty but they turned down the $10 million and stuck with the ARL!

Apparently they were known as the Waratahs...?

Wow. I didn't know that - can't have been because they had Ringrose Park... I do remember something about SL building a team to rival Parramatta - especially when Parramatta had a couple of SL-signed players in 1996.
