Blues wing Doug Howlett doesn't care much for records, but there's no doubt he'll be celebrating carving a unique slice of rugby history during his side's win last night.
Howlett, playing his 99th game of Super rugby, broke Joe Roff's try-scoring record when he touched down for his 58th five-pointer.
While there have probably been a swag of others more spectacular, his 61st minute try was crucial, extending a narrow an 13-11 lead to seven points and ensuring the Blues' five-game winning streak stayed intact.
Howlett scored three tries on debut in Super rugby for the Highlanders against the Chiefs in Taupo and was rapt to reach the magic 58 mark in such an important derby game. "That will stick in the memory for some time," he said.
bastard !!
