Anyone seen this movie ? I wont spoil it for those who havent, but jesus that was the crappest ending ive EVER seen ... even worse than the Abyss(where Hollywood sh*t took over).

Good movie, but the ending sucked. Your thoughts ?

p.s. yes i know it was based on a true story ... but did that really need to happen ? They could have made the rescue crews successful ... oops ive said too much ;-)

If i wasn't already asleep because of the lousy film, the end made me wonder why i even bothered going.

I thought that it was OK (although her getting her kit off was definitely a highlight - very nice chassis there). Her boyfriend gets eaten by sharks and it's just a matter of time before she does, so she does the most sensible thing and drowns herself. The only thing I would have changed is to get the Coastguard vessels out there a bit earlier so that you think she is about to be rescued.

Very loosely based on the Lonergan incident in North Queensland. The truth is that they have no idea what happened and the only connection between the movie and actual events is that they both involved people being left at sea during a diving trip.

Personally thought the ending was fitting if nothing else. At least it avoided the cliche of her getting rescued at the last minute which would have annoyed me. The whole movie was them with no hope of survival so her succumbing to her fate, if you like, worked for me. Plus the final scene was a bit disturbing; calm ocean suggesting they were insignificant and nothing had happened whereas you know she's getting torn apart by sharks below the surface.

I liked the movie in principal even if the actors irritated me and it went nowhere, but I doubt I'll watch it again because I don't feel the need to.

I thought Open Water was a great film!!
It was like no other film I have ever watched, but entirely entertaining.....
I am fascinated with Sharks, so I guess I am slightly biased, but I thought the whole idea of the film and the way it was acted out appealed to me. It was/is VERY real.
It's a scary film, but not in the traditional hollywood way.
8/10 from me.

I dug the ending, actually. There's already far too much Hollywood cheese attached to 95% of movies, so it was refreshing to have them go down the road less travelled. Movie itself was pretty dull, but not terrible.

If anyone can explain exactly what that ending was supposed to be about I'd love to hear it ...

Some black ghost thing started flying around some warehouse and next minute Michael Keaton was dead after falling down a shaft or something. Seemed pretty random to me.
