Well what`s everyones opinion on todays performance ?
My opinion is that it was a good effort, 2 points in round 1 is always a confidence booster espescially for the debutants and the lesser experienced players. I reckon we contributed in the Dragons looking quite flat with some good in your face defence at times, but plenty of improvement is still needed which is expected after round 1.
Farah was great, Heighington very willing and I reckon Galloway is now starting to believe how big and strong he is and should be in for a big season. Fulton showed glimpses of class and the 2 whom I believe are vital to us in winning the big games, Lawrence and Te`o showed glimpses of how dangerous they can be, undoubtedly they are the players who are most likely to make line breaks for us.
Everyone was solid, no need to bag anyone, but next weekend will be a big test of character.

Considering the heat, number of top line players out (TNT, Collis, Head, Gibbs) and the being down to 16 after 4 mins with our superstar off it was a great effort .. some signs for concern and we don't seem to make first contact and stick .. Hodgo really looks back to form and unhampered by the knee ... morris' kicking was good today

It was a solid performance. Defence is still an issue though. We seems to bump off the initial hit way too often and still allowing too much 2nd phase play. Fulton was great with Heighno and Farah is king. Hodgo looks like he is finally at 100%. Tagive was impressive and always keen for a hit up. Ryan impressed on the otherside too. And here it comes..................... I thought Morris was great today. Close to MOTM. I even heard a certain other person I attend the games with give him a wrap. Lets hope it was not a 1 in 27 game wonder as it has been so far.

*Dene's defence is sus and Dragons were stupid not to exploit it. On several occasions he ran out too quickly (as seen in the Youtube clip of the GC Trial) and all it would have taken was for the Dragons to have a smarter player with the ball to exploit his lapse. Cowboys, especially with bowen and JT out wide, will carve us up here

*Hodgo looked great!

*Peni looks to be in the early stages of TNT Syndrome (sidelineus ignorus maximus)

all in all though, some good signs. Defence is where we will come undone

Positives-
Morris looked slightly dangerous at times. Even threw a cut out ball to catch Saints out and create an overlap! Well done Johnny.
Forwards looked good Rhino, Fults Teo played pretty well I thought
Beau Ryan who most had written off played well and looked solid.
Hodgo looks back to his best
Moltzen was impressive

Negatives-
Benji showed us his weak ligaments are not just in his shoulders
Defence looks paper thin close to the line. Any decent side would have chalked up a cricket score against us. Gasnier and Soward crossed the line with ease
We dominated possesion and field position but only managed 24 points
Winning by only 8 points against a woeful side like Saints is cause for concern

On a positive note they looked better than 95% of their games last year. Walking out of the ground my first thoughts were "how bad were the Drags" and we only managed 24 points on them. But in reflexion Mr Bean did piggy back them down the field all through the second half with some very questionable calls.

Next week is another game and the likes of Bowen and Thuston will be a lot harder to contain, but if they go out their and tackle like they did yesterday they are in with a pretty good chance

Immediately after the game I wasnt real happy, but after sleeping on it and with some clarity, I think the boys really showed some real character out there yesterday, a man down for 98% of the game on a sh*t hot day with the first test of the new tougher i'change rules....pretty gutsy really...good to see some aggro and attitude by the forwards early on, good to see them pumping each other up and spurring each other on after a good individual effort ...where in the past this often was overlooked. Lots to work on but they can take a lot out of that game.

The one down after 5 mins factor was massive, even more so in the heat of yday ... soufs had the same thing happen (key player finish very early) and got towelled. Lets be honest our reserve grade side held their own against easts until 10 seconds from half time and we were undone by a fluke 40/20, so there was reason to think we'd beat saints given soufs beat them.

The Gold Coast game was viewed as a hol/junket by the side from what i have been told ... Tom Shines was ropable after the game and forbid the players from going out ... one did and was told he was dropped for Round 1 ... said player broke down into tears and this was commuted into a fine on the basis no incidents happened. Supercoach was apparently in a rage after the GC the likes of which many experiences shines watchers have never seen.

It must have been some sort of rage given supercoach has won less than 40% of games since 1996 and thus has had plenty of practice at accepting defeats ...

I walked out of the sfs feeling pretty mixed up, sure we won but the dragons were awful and Wentworthville would have put 30 on them! After weighing it up though, we had a few out, we lost one early on a hot day, we completed sets well and a lot of their mistakes were caused by the amount of work we made them do. So even though we missed too many tackles it was a pretty gutsy win. Something to build on, but I wouldnt want to see that many missed tackles next week, the cowboys will put 50 on us.

I thought Morris had a good game..... maybe his best for the club..really stood up with Benji off the field...

Lawrence wasn't spectacular, but defensively wasnt a liability..

The worry is that Saints were absolutely woeful, yet we couldn't put them away...

We really lack creativity when in the opposition 20... The grubber into the in goal seems like our only option...

Really miss Collis and Tuaki.. when are they back?

We missed 34 tackles,Penrith were woeful and got smashed, they missed 27.
We havent improved our missed tackle count from last year,a win is good but it is masking our defensive problems.
JT and Bowen will kill us if we don't improve,Dene is not a centre,we need to fix that first, lets hope the boys lift with the thought of 2 wins in a row to start the year.

2 points is 2 points. We were 0-4 last year.

Farah was great, he surely must be the NSW hooker.

Heingno was outstanding.

Im spewin Peni wasn't last try scorer.

Beau Ryan was fantastic under the high ball.

Teams will target Peni's hands/reads with kicks near our line (ala the Warriors winger)

We need to move off our line when defended in our redzone.

Stupid penalties & dropped ball in the 2nd half same as last season.

Still can't put teams away.

Marshall.. I don't know what we can do with him next year. He pays for himself, through Mercandise, Sponsers, Bums on Seats, but were wasting a good portion of our cap on a bloke who at no fault of his own, simply can't stay healthy.

I gave them a 7 out of 10.

I think our defence wasn't as bad as some people are saying. Remember it was round 1 so some things are bound to be a little rusty and it was a very hot day. We had alot of players out from injury. I think they played ok. Halatau playing as a centre needs to learn when to rush out or not. Sometimes he rushes out of the line and trys to put on a big hit which leaves a big gap with they run around him.

Our attack wasn't too bad. Remember it is only round 1 and Marshall got injured at the start of the game. I thought Moltzen went ok and so did Morris. Farah well deserved the man of the match. He is an absolute champion and should play for NSW and Australia this year.

Our completion rate was better yesterday then it was alot of games last year and that means our defence wont be under so much pressure. We put good pressure on the dragons with making them drop out.

And he STILL didn't get into Melbas because of his tattoo. The last time one of our boys had a falling out with Shines for playing up on tour, he was never to be seen again except for his final match with the club seen sitting on a bench for 80mins...

Sheesh is that why?

And here I was getting excited thinking he was dropped because he played so crap!

Guess he will be back next week then
