AN intriguing clash of the men up front will not only go a long way to deciding Sundays NRL clash at Brookvale Oval, but the make-up of the Blues pack this year.
Manly and Australian front-rowers Josh Perry and Brent Kite will stoush with one of the games most respected players in Steve Price.
The 35-year-old is the cornerstone behind both the Warriors and Maroons packs. Its a mantle Price has held since making his Origin debut in 1998.
But now, as his career nears an end, Perry and Kite have the chance to show NSW selectors they are the ones to pick when the Blues attempt to end Queenslands dominance this year.
Hes (Price) one of the better front rowers in the game. For me and Kitey it will definitely be a step up, Perry said on Friday.
The biggest thing with Price, is he just keeps going and going and going. Weve just got to be watching him at all times.
But its not just him, they have got some big blokes and they will take some beating.
Hooker Matt Ballin, who will dutifully split his two mates, said if the ex-NSW pair gets one over Price it will be a tremendous boost ahead of this years Origin series.
Hes been Queenslands best player, with Petero Civoniceva, and it will give them a lot of confidence to play well against him, Ballin said. Hopefully our forward pack as a whole can get on the front foot against them. It will be a big game for us, playing against tough opposition.
Fellow Manly front-rower Jason King said Prices longevity in the game is a benchmark for all props.
To be playing for Queensland and Australia, year in, year out, at 35 years of age ... its a real credit to him, King said.
He must work really hard on his game during the week.
Manly coach Des Hasler said the premiers are primed to wrap up two competition points on home soil.
Its not something we entertain, losing, he said. We are staying nice and positive.
