They can and will impeach him again. Remember that the only reason why the first one did not go through was because the Republicans voted against even hearing witness testimonies in the senate.

I'm glad you asked as there is a precedent.

William Belknap got caught taking bribes on a massive scale. They voted to impeach him by unanimous vote.

Just before the trial was going to be heard in the senate, he rushed to POTUS and resigned.

The trial continued even though he was no longer a public servant.

In all honesty, the great divide will do the USA and the rest of the western world a great deal of harm. It's not about policies now, but left v right. While they fight amongst themselves they take their mind off the real issues at hand. That is, what most normal people expect to improve their lot in life. Civil war is a possibility there. They have are a lot of nutters there who are only interested in their ideology and not the better good of their country. OZ and countries like us could very well be affected deeply by the chaos there if in continues.
