OT:Has anyone in Australian Swimming got Balls.

Today Thorpe fell in at the start of the 400m heats. Unfortunatley Australian swimming Rules means if you arent in the top 2 of the final you dont qualify.
Australian Swimming do this so there are no grey areas with selections.
I wont state the obviuos but Australian swimming Wake Up You have cost us a Gold Medal in the 400m.
Anyone disagree.

Not quite the facts there Foz.

False start rule was changed last year or the year before. Falling into the pool counts as a false start, whether the "ready set go" etc has even started. New rules call for DQ on FIRST break, which is very tough - but as out coach said

rules are rules, there is nothing I can do

These trials charade as Australian selection trials though.
If you dont think Thorpe is worthy of Olympic Selection in the 400m thats your opinion.
These are the rules at the Olympics but if you think................... (insert any name you want) is more worthy of Australian selection I will tend to disagree.

At the Olympics fair enough there are no tomorrows but here.

How about a bit of lateral thinking to the people in charge of Australian swimming? Thorpe is far and away our best swimmer. To omit him from his pet event because of a single error is tantamount to stupidity. I always thought we were supposed to send our best athletes to the Olympics and there should be some sort of exceptional circumstances criteria in case something like this happens.

These trials are a joke, all that work one F#$K up and u are out, how about they base selection on the 2 fastest times over the previous 12 months, makes it fair for everyone then.

What if Thorpe goes over there and get's another false start? Then we have denied the other guy a chance to win and we still lose. Here's what I reckon will happen. Thorpedo qualifies in the 200m and goes to the Olympics. The other guy will pull out just prior to the event and Thorpe will win another gold medal. Not fair on the other bloke but hey the best should be there automatically. The rules were changed before the 2000 games for false starts. It's a tough call though.

On the Thorpe issue, the AOC is meant to select the best team for the games. Obviously that is Thorpe. I dont see how it is in their best interests to rule him out.
