The first batch of rugby league fans are set to be allowed to attend games again in round five after the NRL secured permission for spectators to return from the NSW government.
Small NRL crowds are set to be approved from next weekend as stadium guidelines are brought into line with restrictions on pubs and restaurants.
The state government's ruling would potentially allow small groups to attend NRL games in stadium corporate facilities at a ratio of one person every four square metres.
The NRL has successfully argued that provided strict social distancing rules are in place, fans can safely attend games again, making the NRL Australia's first professional code to welcome crowds back amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We're very pleased the government have corrected the anomaly, because this was allowed in pubs, clubs and racecourses but not sports stadiums," ARL Commission chairman Peter V'landys told AAP on Friday afternoon.
