We all know that our attack stinks. Embarrassing really. This is on Flanagan totally. He has built his squad thinking we are playing in the 1950's in a rain quagmire. His methodology does not suit the demands of the modern game. Bob Fulton used to say that coaching attack is significantly harder than coaching defence. Another knock on Flanagan. I was thinking recently about how diabolical our backs are, and I started thinking about ranking them based on where they sit in terms of the modern game.
1. Gutherson - finished as a 1st grader. Total absence of speed. 5/10
2. Sloan - can' tackle, suspect under the high ball and doesn't like body contact. Fast. 4/10
3. Tu - there is a reason he did not debut until he was 26. He's not good enough. 4/10
4. Lawson - why bother. 3/10
5. CT - my Mother is faster and more mobile than him and she is 92 and bedridden.
6. Fale - not sure yet. Something about him I like. Jury is out. 5/10
7. Holmes - poor start to the season but still a quality player. 7/10
8. Suli - what has he ever done? 5/10
9. Faegai - plodder but good clubman - 4/10
10. Atkinson - we don't know yet, but I think a permanent move to #6 will see him flourish. 6/10
11. Flanagan - enough has been said. 2/10
12. LKT - I like him, but I know he has issues. 4/10
When you actually dig into the analysis, it's hopeless. I'm not at all worried about losing S'ua or Leiluia. We have a plethora of good young fowards, but lets use the money on buying some speed, and I do hear there is a good young halfback in our 2nd's called Kade Reed. Not sure if you guys have heard of him? Shane Flanagan certainly hasn't. He might be worth a shot!
