Our halves

I thought both Fitzy and Scott were great last night. However I thought that were at their best when:

* Prince got a bit wider and was able to get deep than straighten up. This was seen in the Hodgson try and in the final minutes when he nearly beat Girdler.

* Fitzy got into dummyhalf and turned their forwards backwards. He was good round the ruck when he didnt have so much time to get confused and run in circles.

This pointed something out to me. Prince has more time and space wider and Fitzy is better where he can dart round the bigger guys. IS it only me who notices this?

6. Prince
7. Fitzhenry

Thoughts?

Prince is far better off at 5/8 IMO.

I think you will find that he played most the 2nd half there last night, with Fitzy at 1/2 back.

I think thats the way Sheens will go next week. There is no other alternative anyways.

no not just him.

I suspect Sheens himself knows it. That's why he swapped Prince and Reynolds, and why you see Prince getting out wide so much.

I don't know why Sheens has tried using and persisting Prince as a half in the first place. When he came through at the Cowboys, he was an exceptional and exciting 5/8th who was their most consistent player week in a week out. Sheens was his mentor then. Maybe he thought by Bennett trying to transform him into a halfback, his game might have changed somewhat, but its evident this is not the case at all. He's still a natural No. 6 and that's where he has and will continue to play his best football at.

If Prince is a far better 5/8 then why did the game against Manly change when Prince went to first reciever .We were gornnneee until the forced change
now if we had Orford at half id agree .
But putting Fitzy in the number 7 will not make Prince a good 5/8,it will stifle him .
I would however like to see Benji Marshall in the 7 jersey when he comes back from injury .
Scotts prefered position with Wests is 5/8 because he believes he has more room to move .But we have all seen just how dangerous he is at first reciever when he takes the line on .

prince was recruited to the club to be the man-first reciever and organizer.really does not matter if at half or 5/8-the main problem is he got to getting a good pass from a dummy half with some field vision.the other night against penrith some off the passing from dummy half, was right out of netball or beach volly ball.young robbie farah is the guy who needs as much game time at this level.he is a guy with vision and that little bit of xtra class.fitzy to me is your perfect bench man covers a lot of position a nd can add some dash when you need it.but as a starting 1/2 or 5/8th not to sure-but we dont have a million opitions-till benji comes back.back to prince it would be good to have a couple of real centres and not converted back-rowers for him to put into gaps.anyway on the whole we are going in the right direction and you can only play with the cards your delt

I think our best combination in the halves was Reynolds at Halfback and Prince at 5/8. I think Prince played so well when Reynolds got injured because he realised he was the only bloke out there who was really a creative half (Fitzy was still on wing). I think our best combination now that Reynolds is out would have to be Marshall at 5/8 and Prince at Halfback. Untill Marshall is back I think Fitzy is the best option at 5/8. When Benji does make his return I think Wilson should be dropped from the form he is showing at the moment and Fitzhenry to go straight to centre as a permanent fixture with Elford.
