Our salary cap

I had a go at putting together an approximate salary cap with the players I think will be our top 25, with the assumed signings of Morrison, Tahu, Stringer and Robinson. Not bloody easy I can tell you, I wasn't able to resign ANY of the players off contract except to take up Grothe's option. I'd certainly love to get Stapo in there, maybe at the expense of one of the juniors from our top 25. I'd be very interested in which figures people thought were high or low. I would have thought most of the figures were on the low side (maybe burt, witt the only exceptions). I've used $150k as the basis for a senior player (based on what we offered Hodgo), $100k for an establish first grader (or in Witt's case taking into account it was a long term deal). Dunno, what do you think?

Wade McKinnon 100
Luke Burt 100
Matt Peterson 75
Eric Grothe 100
Timana Tahu 280
David Vaeliki 150
Ashley Graham 50
Michael Witt 100
John Morris 100
Mark Riddell 250
Nathan Cayless 250
Michael Vella 250
Justin Tsoulos 50
Aaron Cannings 125
Chris Armit 50
Glenn Morrison 250
Dean Widders 100
Chad Robinson 100
Chris Muckert 100
Nathan Hindmarsh 250
Daniel Wagon 150
Feleti Mateo 50
Luke O'Dwyer 50
Jack Afamasaga 50
Paul Stringer 100
3230

Morris, Riddell (if incentives acheived) and Cannings all seem quite low.

I'd say close to
Morris 180
Riddell (up to) 350
Cannings 200

yeah i think Morris higher (at least $150K) - Riddell ($280K before incentives) - Cannings (at least $150K).

also - even if we release Dykes, won't we still be contributing to his slary in some way.

Depoends on who he gets released to

Michael Buettner was released to the Tigers for the 2003 season even though he was still under contract, The tigers didn't pay the full amount of his contract so Parra had to pay the rest and this counted under the cap

however,

DAvid Solomona was released to Wakefield and they paid his full contract so nothing counted under the cap.

If the team Dykes' is released to pays his full contract then NO it won't count under the cap.

If that team pays Dykes lets say 180K but Dykes is on 280K then Parra must pay Dykes 100K which will count under the cap

Don't think any other club would be happy to take Dykes at his full Eels contract - on form these past two and half years his value must have about halved!!

Pommie Clubs usually do pay full amounts
NRL clubs however never do

a) because most simply can't afford it
b) it gives one of the opponents a free go at making their club better

The players must look at all of this and have a good laugh. I'd say some of the figures are low and some are high, eg. I doubt McKinnon or Grothe would be on 100 considering they were both playing reserve grade for their respective clubs.

Vella, Cayless, Hindy would all be 300k plus. Dykes, we have to assume he stays is on the same. Even if he's released we'd still probably have to pay part of his salary.

Cannings is rumoured to be on around 200k. Vaealiki and Wagon on a little more as well. Saying that though, there must be some guys on less than we'd think.

Didn't Vella, Cayless and Hindy all sign four-year millioon dollar contracts...

McKinnon would should be on 100 this year, considering when he resigned he was in blistering form.

So far if you add everything that people reckon I'm low on, we're up to another $500,000. You can't make that up by cutting any of the lower salaries. Maths don't really add up then do they?

nah - doesn't really add up....oh my god - we are the new bulldogs

The other thing is that I believe its possible to fiddle with your top 25 and put some guys who you'd think r top 25 players into the PL salaries if u get my drift (mind u there isn't alot to go around the PL cap).

My 1eyed eel I am grateful for your efforts (I read you website daily), however buddy, forget the salary cap. EVERY club is rorting it to a certain extent. The dogs only got caught because someone tipped them in. However the Dogs took the piss a bit too much where other clubs give their players cars, accomodation or bags of cash. It happens. People are naive if they think it does not.
