our shaky backline in 09

just wondering with the losses of Morris and Gasnier for next season, and the persistence with playing a fullback as halfback... does our backline look a little shaky for next season?

- are we putting too much faith on a fat lazy winger now called Taco-Dell because of his rather rotund stomach and all the excess "junk in his trunk"?

- IS chase "ex-wonder kid" now "turnstyle" stanley the answer, given his inability to read attacking plays in defense and loose carries of the football?

- Ben "captain obvious" at half with his set plays that the opposition know he is gonna put on before he does??

we have the cash to buy - but who can we buy? we have a big hole on the right side of the field now with gasnier and morris both leaving...

- i honestly dont think any of the backs in the U 20's are ready to step up just yet... they need another season in the lower grades first.

Bennett seems to have addressed our forwards issue with the addition of Priddis, Smith and Weyman... now for the backs?

Gee Mr Red. This thread is really interesting..........NOT.

Mr Bennett won the comp in 06 WITHOUT a halfback and turned the best fullback in the world into the best player in ther world (lockyer). Im sure he can help hornby.

Dell still has speed and is fit enough to play yet you keep baggin him out.

As for Chase Stanley, the kid is still a teen, he has lots to learn and is willing. ( i have spoken to him personally) Why put him down also.

Mr Red, Mr Red. Give these guys a chance.

I don't know why you're so worried about a big hole on the right side next year, there's a f**king big hole there now with the way Gaz is defending.

i didn't see any excess fat on dell on the footy show. EXPERIENCE and passion is what he offers. to bad if you thought that he would be as fast as before. that was never going to happen.

can i have some of the drugs you are on?:crazy::crazy:

The players are always saying they feel too much pressure from the supporters and I responded by saying I will not bad mouth the players anymore. I think we as supporters need to understand that.

I am a big fan of chase and dell. I hated dell as a bronco he is seriously a team player and thats important.

Give them a chance Mr Red. :)

I still like giving the players a serve , I don't want to wreck my health by holding it all in . Having said that Cooper man is one of the posters here that I really respect . I feel our problems have been and still are with our forwards being a little soft to be frank .

If they get a bloke from a park footy side to replace Gasnier, our right centre will have a sh*tload more bollocks than it does currently.

Hello all,

Long time reader. First time poster.

Does anyone know how B Morris goes in the centres? We all know Josh played well there. Then we could move Benny back to FB and purchase a decent HB. Something we haven't had for a while...

I believe the starting backline will look fine. Once an injury or two creeps in, then there may be trouble. There just doesn't seem to be the depth there in '09 that has been present the last few years.

Stanley is a big unit and if anyone can make the most of his size and speed then it is Mr. Bennett.

Dell needs to be there, even for high spirits sake. You can't honestly sit there and tell me we wouldn't have benefited from having him out there amidst and after that brawl on Monday night.

1. Brett Morris
2. Dean Whare
3. Chase Stanley
4. Matt Cooper
5. Jason Nightingale
6. Jamie Soward
7. Ben Hornby

I don't believe Dell should be there for the enthusiasm factor or whatever. If he is fitter and faster then sure bring him in because he hasn't lost his footy awareness or anything like that. From the NYC side I think Dean Whare is ready for NRL if Dell isn't fit enough. He is very strong in defence and classy in attack IMO.

Hornby and Soward is probably our best halves combination at this point in time. Chase/Soward combination was good at times but erratic and the side in general looked lost with them as the halves. Soward and Hornby complement each other and hold the team together well and that's why I would like to see them stay together. In saying that I liked John Kennedy from NYC be in there when he's ready. I don't see too many able replacements from other clubs at this point in time so I'm happy to go with that.

I've asked numerous times in the past but am never quite sure. Are there any off-contract HB's?

I'm thinking Luke Walsh, any other possibilities who are off contract.

We saw what Luke Walsh could do for the Knights last season, and he proved his worth, and a change could really kick him into gear, and I feel that if he clicks he will be a very classy halfback.

Adding the edition of Darius Boyd could be key as well, he is capable as a winger and centre so if need be he can fill either role.

1.B Hornby
2.J Nightingale
3.D Boyd
4.M Cooper
5.B Morris
6.J Soward
7.L Walsh

What do you think? Personally I like a gamble.
