Overton on Smiths Future

I mentioned it in another thread, it might get lost and be of interest to people so....

There was the usual story about the eels last game in the Parramatta Advertiser this week

What was most interesting though was the qoute was Alan Overton on Ovo on Brian Smiths future.

He basically said the coaching issue was one was Fitzgerald.

Cant remember a time ine the past when Ovo, when asked about Brian Smith, hasn't come out and backed him.

Might only be a subtle change in what Ovo has been saying, but its almost enough to be called a backflip if he was a pollie!

Yeah I thought that both articles were pretty damning of Brian Smith and the way he coaches. for eg. Wagon who is a lock playing at 5/8 was brought up. The tone of both articles were different than what they have been before.

Just on team selections for the Sharks game dont be surprised if we see more of the younger Guys in the team. Brian Smith needs to put some sort of positive spin on this disaster of a season and maybe one thing he will try is to blood some youngsters and get rid of those has beens such as Peek and Pearson. Feleti and maybe Tim Smith may get ago if they do well this weekend against the Jets.

Jake,

all we can do is hope i suppose (about the young players) but don't forget how bloody stubborn BS can be about such matters and the fact that Pearson and Peek are two of his favourites???? but believe me i hope it happens

also, I heard a whisper in the SMH at some stage this week that one Adam Dykes may be back that week against - Cronulla - interseting????

and fish eel,

I hope Ovo or someone at the top has had some sort of change of opinion on BS becuase we need it to happen and soon

The way I read it, I would be very very surprised if BS is first grade coach for 2005

Going by that rumour of an underperforming coach and his CEO a while back - of the odd player negotiation situation that we find ourselves in (punting players left right and centre without granting Dykes a release as yet), I'm wondering if the prospective signing isn't waiting on a coaching decision - or maybe that another coach isn't being wooed in the background - may be another club official.

It's all speculation, but I would rest a lot easier if Game First gave us a coaching rumour!

well misty i hope your right cause something needs to happen....the club needs a huge shake up, starting with dear old Smithy

look what happened the last time we had a shake up and a coaching change, BS did well, he did very well at times, but now he has run his race and its time for him to go.....agreed????

You mean Pearson, the club's number one halfback, and Wagon, the Llama , may actually give way to some young and talented players? WOW!

If Game First gave us a coaching rumour it would undoubtably be false, so maybe you'd better hope for no rumour at all.

Game First just notifyed me that Trevor Gillmeister will be coaching parramatta in 2005 and that Steve Renouf will be playing in the centres. :D

i sent damien kelly an email saying these sorts of issues, i got a reply like brian will put the best team on the field each week (which is fair enough), so i would think it is unlikely that more juniors will get a go. He also suggested that dykes may be considered for the sharks game.

I also asked about succession planning with regards to dykes and BS but i received no response from that email.... :( :(
