With a world cup planned for 2008 - this will mean that most teams will have been playing regular games for over 5 years - with the exception of the Pacific Island nations

The current plan up to 2008 is that the following tournaments will be played regularly

Tri-Nations
European Nations Cup
Mediteranian Cup
Victory Cup

This means regualr games for the next few years for
Australia
England
NZ
France
Wales
Ireland
Scotland
Russia
Lebanon
Serbia
Morrocco
USA

This just leaves a Pacific Cup to give the likes of PNG, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Cooks Islands, New Caledonia, etc regular games

Imagine out fantastic the RL in the Pacific would be. We could have a Pacific Cup and the best of the Cup could form a "Pacific Combined" team and maybe take on Australia. Gee that would really give them something to aim for. Of course PNG wouldn't and shouldn't be part of any combined team. A Pacific Cup is a must!

the South Pacific games will again be held in 2007.
if rugby league can get its act together it will be included and for this to happen only 4 countries need to assemble teams.
im led to believe there was not enough teams last time but with the recent establishment of the new caledonia rugby league and the recent efforts of the Cook Islands rugby league it shouldnt be a problem.
teams contesting the comp could include:
Papua New Guinea
Samoa
Tonga
Fiji
New Caledonia
Cook Islands
Niue
American Samoa
this could easily be seperated into 2 pools of 4 and act as a qualifying tournament for the rugby league world cup.

Pacific Cup is an excellent idea with the following competing:

New Caledonia
Fiji
Tonga
Samoa
Cook Islands
American Samoa
Niue
PNG

Then, as a biannual event, the winner would qualify to play in a rectangular involving Australia, NZ, PNG and the qualifier.
