I didn't say anything about a private investor wanting to. I said they would be just as likely to put money into IRL as the NRL would. If you can't comprehend what I'm saying you need to think a little harder.

Stop being a whinging pissant.
So are you trying to say the NRL/ARLC dont put any money towards IRL?

The NRL underwrote the last 2 pacific tests, and both failed to make a profit. So theres some money they have given.

good

the 2006 tri nations lost "hundreds of thousands" according to david gallop..thats money that could have gone to the RLIF....the previous 2 tri nations in england made a profit of £750k & £1m plus...

brian canavan, from the roosters, was put in charge of the 2009 pacific cup...costs for the 5 game comp got out of control and the comp cost £1.5m to stage...and lost most of that..

the 2000 RLWC which damn near bankrupted the RFL would have made a profit if the ARL had put the tv money it sold for the world cup instead of pocketing it!!...

as for underwriting the pacific test last year....like i said...GOOD...its about time they contributed

Back on topic regarding the Cooks getting a game.I suggested they play Vanuatu but perhaps the earlier poster was right ,the Cook Is should play Niue for the Polynesian SHIELD with the winner to challenge the loser of the Polynesian CUP (Samoa v Tonga) for a place in the following years Polynesian Cup.Then Vanuatu could play the Solomon Is in the Melanesian SHIELD with the winner challenging the loser of the Melanesian CUP (PNG v Fiji) for a place in the following years Melanesian Cup.So overall it would look like this:
Anzac test weekend
POLYNESIAN CUP - Samoa v Tonga (Samoa win)
POLYNESIAN SHIELD - Cook is v Niue (Cook Is win)
MELANESIAN CUP - PNG v Fiji (PNG win)
MELANESIAN SHIELD - Vanuatu v Solomon Is (Vanuatu win)
2nd weekend in October
PACIFIC CUP FINAL - Samoa v PNG
POLYNESIAN CHALLENGE - Tonga v Cook Is
MELANESIAN CHALLENGE - Fiji v Vanuatu
Meaningful and competitive matches and a pathway for our developing Pacific nations.

You can't just say GOOD spud, after you and others say arlc/nrl have never given any money.
The administration only changed 2 years ago.
Don't judge this administration on the previous shambles admin.
The ARLC/NRL is trying to form relationships with business and government in the island nations so they can be self sufficient. They have put the pac test on, now double header. A very successful 4 nations. Massive TV deal. Recreating the notion that the international game is the pinnacle. Strengthening the state comps and admitting png and fiji teams. Bringing touch footy under the RL banner. Treating womens rl with the respect it deserves.
So much was lost under Gallop and co. We arent proud of it. But we are trying to make amends.

I have no idea how the pacific cup lost $1.5 million. It was played in png, accommodation would have been minimal, it wasn't filmed anywhere except online so no production costs, the players were paid minimal amounts. How could it cost $50000, let alone a million.

Same as pacific cup, 8000 plus crowd and live on foxtel, hardly any costs as the players mostly all live here anyway.

Righto. Well forget about about any achievements or detriments.
Start fresh in 2015.
We have a pac islands double header.
Well done to all for making it a reality.
Now will we see other nations schedule matches for the same weekend?

Good point. A lot of us have been asking for this for over a decade. Consider how far we have come since then! Lets get behind it!
