Panthers 3 2 1s

A decent effort here I thought. We were unlucky to not score the first try of the game after going close twice in the opening 6 or so minutes. Panthers then got the ball deep in our territory off an ‘error’ that is more often than not called a penalty and we were chasing the game in the rain since that point. I thought the lads held in there admirably when it looked like Penrith could open a 2 try or more lead.

We did some dumb wet weather stuff but we also did some good wet weather football and looked good when the forwards rolled their sleeved up. The online D through the middle is still not good enough BUT we did have our best 15 minutes of goal line D all season, 5 minutes prior to half time and the last 10 minutes of the game.

This is just another case of injuries and inexperience costing us a close game and makes the Manly/Canberra games hurt even more where we were the better team. I will say I am mystified as to why we continued attacking via the left edge in the 2nd half when both our tries in the 1st half involved exploiting Jamie Soward on the right edge.

Anyways, JWH, Cords, Pearce and SST will filter back over the next few games and all of a sudden we should have more poise and class on last tackle options as well as more punch up the middle and a vastly improved bench. TBH I think we will be the Manly of last year, go on a run at some stage but finish 9-11, but you never know…

Points are hard this week as all the top performers made errors at critical times but here goes..

3 Guerra
2 Latrell
1 Evans – Easily his best game of the year

For you guys Mitchell had a great game but you can't discount Friend with 60+ tackles and 3 try assists

Yeah Friend tackled himself into the ground last night. According to SMH Ultimate FF, 71 tackles (only 2 missed), 2 try assists, 1 line break assist and 254 kicking meters.

Massive effort. Surely he couldn't have done more than that.

Apart from Round 1 & the Cowboys game, they've been punching above their weight so far..

Now we start to get our leaders back..

We still have a couple of so called seniors that are not performing as good or as consistently as they should, Toops and SKD come to mind, but we've gone down in 4 of our 6 losses by 4 points or less.
I realise we don’t have the luxury of being ruthless with senior players at the moment given our injury list, but we need to show some bottle and drop the underperformers even if it means another loss because once we have all our stars back on deck the underperformers get camouflaged by the wins.
I don’t envy Robbo but I do trust him.
3 – Evans
2 – Mitchell
1 – Guerra

Chook.

Evans was fantastic, he has been a bit underwhelming to start the year but he showed his ability last night. Latrell is a beast so GI like though he has that casualness which I don't think is a good thing, but in terms of talent he is a freak.

Tupou must be close to getting dropped by now durely. Do you guys know what the point of playing Watson was? I'm sure he is a great talent but it seems like the last thing you guys need in the team is another young half.

Yet another one that perhaps we let slip away. If this result had have happened last year I would have been filthy, but in reality I was really happy with the way they all had a crack for the full 80.

3. Friend. Was immense, busted his guts out & did not stop all game.
2. Mitchell. Starting to look dangerous. Can't wait to see what he'll do if he ever gets into open space.
1. Guerra. Tradesman like.

As others have said I wasn't too upset with this one as at least we put up a good fight. once again its the errors and our inability to defend them that is killing us. (I'm looking at you Toops when you dropped that third or fourth ball you didn't even looked like you gave a f**k)

Credit to the panthers the way they closed out the game was very impressive.

3. Friend
2. Latrell
1. Evans

its going to be tough from here I figured we would need to win 4-5 out of our first 10 before we got some of our experienced players back to have any chance of finals. looks like a long shot now.
