A decent effort here I thought. We were unlucky to not score the first try of the game after going close twice in the opening 6 or so minutes. Panthers then got the ball deep in our territory off an error that is more often than not called a penalty and we were chasing the game in the rain since that point. I thought the lads held in there admirably when it looked like Penrith could open a 2 try or more lead.
We did some dumb wet weather stuff but we also did some good wet weather football and looked good when the forwards rolled their sleeved up. The online D through the middle is still not good enough BUT we did have our best 15 minutes of goal line D all season, 5 minutes prior to half time and the last 10 minutes of the game.
This is just another case of injuries and inexperience costing us a close game and makes the Manly/Canberra games hurt even more where we were the better team. I will say I am mystified as to why we continued attacking via the left edge in the 2nd half when both our tries in the 1st half involved exploiting Jamie Soward on the right edge.
Anyways, JWH, Cords, Pearce and SST will filter back over the next few games and all of a sudden we should have more poise and class on last tackle options as well as more punch up the middle and a vastly improved bench. TBH I think we will be the Manly of last year, go on a run at some stage but finish 9-11, but you never know
Points are hard this week as all the top performers made errors at critical times but here goes..
