Panthers v Broncos

A lot of good teams struggled this week. Souths and Manky won easy but they copped a lot of points.
I doubt it was easy for everyone to just pack up, leave home and go into some sort of bubble.
I wouldn't be to concerned.

Most sides finally have full sides again but plenty of Origin rust

Your friend Burton looked ordinary v Tigers with Kenny in hooker... so I have said it before
Burton is a rookie who's been moved around all year. Luai is an Origin player who just did nothing against the shit bottom 4 side. If you aren't worried about his output without Nathan you are either a moron or delusional

If it ends 18-0 I'd be fine with it. I know there have been a lot of blowouts this year, but I still believe any side that shows up and remains committed in defence will be tough to break down for any other side, especially one missing two of it's biggest attacking weapons. We weren't at our best, but looked fluid enough to put a decent number of points on a team who hadn't turned up, the Broncos turned up as they've done against us for a few years now.

The real worry is those tries with the game still in play. Butter soft defence up the middle for both of them, from Fish of all people. Watching us fall over Isaako for 40 meters took me back to 2008. Very concerning and the literal opposite of what our premiership chances are built on. Rocks in defence. Coming home with more wind in the sails than the opposition.

Have to give credit to brisbane. They were very good again.

But you cant take the best player in the game out of your team and not expect to struggle.

Take turbo out of manly they struggle.
Teddy out of the roosters would be a noticeable difference.

Nath is the best player in the game who runs our attack. We will continue to struggle till his back.

Even without yeo and api tonight if nathan had been there we win easy.

Put the poor service aside.

Luai played a different role though. Kicked for 400m tonight alone. Then moved over to the right both of those is what Nathan does or will do when he is back.

Like you said Burton was a rookie and May isn't a half. So if Luai doesn't take up that role who does? We played pretty good field position early on.

Various reasons why in the 20 the attack struggled but we are 3-0 without Cleary. Won the last 4 straight. Next few weeks will be a struggle but after that can build up to the finals

Also, if Cleary is still out next week, Burton and Luai NEED to be the halves. It'd be nice if they had more time together, but we're not winning the comp with a May/xxxx combination. A game against the other big title contender with the pressure way off is exactly the kind of experience our second best halves combination could use if they end up having to do it in a finals match.

Just a quick look at the Broncos stats.
55 % possession.
81 % completion rate.
90% effective tackle.

That added to the fact that we lose our ball playing lock early.
Our half in the 2nd half.
I'm still not convinced that Luia is 100%
So a win is a win.

Worries going into next week.
Yeo concussion.
Api missing
JFH missing
Nathan missing or playing <100%
Mays knee.
To'o looked injured to me (Knee). Still kept playing because he is a champion.
Naden more rocks than diamonds lets try Tago ( he was great in Regies).

I don't give a f**k about roles or kick meters tonight. He needed to stand up and own the team and he didn't. He was nowhere

I am in the RELAX camp. 6 weeks out from finals and we are effectively 3 wins ahead of 4th place. Tonight we missed our best player, our SOO hooker and our captain/key focal point in attack and still beat a very committed team.

This year is more rocky than last year, but ultimately the smooth sailing into the post season didn’t result in the premiership. This year we have had more injuries, more disruption through origin and other distractions (both wonderful (babies) and otherwise) towards the business end than we had last year. These on-field challenges may build resilience, and the off-field stuff may allow the leaders at our club to show their mettle.

But all in all I have spent way to many cold winter evenings at Panthers stadium watching the dross we have put out over the years to be anything but hopeful that this current bunch of players and coach are moving in the right direction; this is a class side that has a fighting chance of winning the whole thing.

I would encourage you all to take a step back and look at the totality of the season and not take out to much credence in single performances (be they good or bad).

We are 3 from 5 without Nathan. Not 3 nil. Keep shifting those goal posts though to ignore the facts you don't like

We put 30 on a Warriors team with no bench. An interior team in Souths put 60 on them.
We put 18 on a Broncos team that gave up on 2021 releasing players left snd right... tigers put 42 on them just a week ago.

The 2 points is great. But our form has been getting poorer and poorer lately. 65 missed tackles tonight a depleted Broncos side is just shockingly bad.

We used to dominated possession with Nathan and as a result defence was a breeze. Yet you still cant see how important he is when we have trouble scoring, get dominated in possession and miss record amounts of tackles?

Not long ago you claimed we were so far ahead of other teams. Yet 2nd and 3rd last managed to match it with us when they shouldn't have come close with how the games unfolded. We didn't struggle against good teams at full strength. We struggled against depleted bottom 4 sides. The difference between a Cleary led team and one without him is absolutely f**king enormous regardless of any other players. He's the most important player in the competition. Invent another reason why he's not. But it's a fact that is proven more with every game he misses.

No since this injury. The conversation was something like we will lose some games now. I said we won't drop another game mainly due to the opposition but we had the players to adapt.

Actually 4 from 6 counting the Storm game. Though Cleary, Luai, Yeo haven't lost a game this year.. So it was more than just one player missing

Fox example Burton and Luai can handle the kicking side of it. The rest are good enough to hold their which it has be.

Round 6 we played Broncos up there we won 20-12. Last year was tight too with us full strength. For some reason the Broncos challenge us.

Souths had a full strength spine all rested up. They also let more points in against them.

Parra have lost 2 of their last 3. Souths struggle with the Dogs last round. Even Storm had it tight this week. All good teams go through patches.. all that matters is 2 points and staying fit for the finals

It's really hard to pinpoint what is going on with the team at the moment.
We seemed to have so much energy and enthusiasm in the squad for a long time, grinding teams to dust and running away with it in the last 15 minutes.
Players looked tired and our defence slow at the back end of this one.
The points are everything and we can use the old saying "winning while not playing well" to make ourselves feel good but we are not even close to the performances we had last year and early on in the season.

These tough games are the best thing for us this year, especially with key players out, finding character in our team, find it out now rather than putting cricket scores on teams.

this is only going to help us come finals time, we are proving that we can still win games with interruptions to our squad, that gives confidence to the whole team, just think how confident they can be when we get back to our strongest lineup.
