Paradise Lost - In Requiem

Holy sh*t, I didn't see this coming. Many metal fans will remember these guys for the string of classic albums they put out in the early to mid-90s, particularly the mid-period classics "Icon" and "Draconian Times". Most of us also remember that their sound degraded into unispiring goth-pop after that, and lost interest in them. But after some encouraging reviews I picked up their latest on iTunes yesterday, and f**k me this sounds like the logical progression from "Draconian Times", its all there, the big chunky riffs, epic but catchy song structures, and Greg Mackintosh's trademark atmospheric guitarwork, it's as if the last decade never happenned. I HIGHLY reccomend the metal fans on here to check it out.

Thanks for that Spacemonkey, I'm always looking to add something new to my Ipod. I've not made myself overly familiar with Paradise Lost, but it sounds like my kind of thing.
I'll be sure to check it out.

They were morbid, each to their own but f**k they depressed me.

Well yeah, given that they were one of the bands prety much resposible for kick-starting the doom genre, they were never exactly cheerful. Thats was basically the whole point!

Very impressed with In Reqiem. I'm gonna have to check out the others mentioned here as well.

I'd get Draconian Times first, it's a guaranteed winner if you like IR. then work your way back through Icon, Shades of God and Gothic, which get progressively rawer. The self-titled album from 2005 is apparently decent too although I don't have it yet (might get it tonight)
