Parramatta coach reshuffle puts Ricky Stuart in mix to lead the Brisbane Broncos Phil Rothfield
DANIEL Anderson's sacking as coach of Parramatta has created a bizarre game of coaching musical chairs that could pave the way for Ricky Stuart to become coach of the Broncos next year.

Kiwi Test coach Stephen Kearney, who is about to sign as Parramatta coach, was also in the sights of the Broncos, where Ivan Henjak's job is shaky and under review.

The Eels were in serious danger of missing out on Kearney to the Broncos if they had not sacked Anderson immediately at Sunday night's emergency board meeting.

Former Sharks coach Stuart is in contention for the Broncos job should their board and new CEO - tipped to be Gene Miles - decide to remove Henjak.

Kearney is expected to sign with Parramatta by the end of the week on a three-year contract to replace Anderson, who is unemployed just 12 months after taking the Eels to the grand final.
Start of sidebar.

Broncos CEO Bruno Cullen moved in May to publicly assure Henjak that his position was safe for 2011 when The Courier-Mail reported some club insiders wanted Henjak out and Stuart installed.

Last month, Cullen guaranteed Henjak would be at the helm next season in the week before Brisbane's elimination from the finals - the first time since 1991 that the Broncos had failed to qualify.

Meanwhile, Stuart sits quietly in the background, unaware that the Eels' upheaval may have thrown the door open for a job at the Broncos.

Like Parramatta, the Broncos are undergoing an internal review, and it is understood Henjak has been criticised for lacking communication skills with senior players including skipper Darren Lockyer.

Stuart has shown interest in the NSW State of Origin position, but insists he wants nothing to do with an NRL club while a coach is still in the job.

His manager John Fordham last night insisted there had been no contact with the Broncos, where Stuart has a close relationship with Lockyer and other Test players from when he coached the Kangaroos.

"Ricky is not a person who wants to throw his name out there for any job that comes up," Fordham said.

"It's just not his go."

Sources revealed Eels directors were unanimous in their decision not to extend Anderson's contract beyond 2011.

Well that's interesting.

No sigh of relief for me. Just a big groan. I've got nothing against Kearney.. but to sign an unproven coach to a 3 year deal is crazy.

And for the record I am aware coaches have to get experience somewhere but generally they are promoted from within and have experience with the players they will be coaching prior to be given the first grade job. Like Rick Stone, Shane Flanagan, Ivan Henjak, Ivan Cleary, Kevin Moore, Neil Henry, David Furner... all coaches who were promoted after serving their apprenticiships at their respective clubs they're coaching now. There's a massive difference between doing that and hiring some rookie assistant from another club who doesn't know the players at all.

I didn't want either. I thought Ando deserved another crack. Stuart... Kearney... flip a coin as far as i'm concerned. I'm just sick of our club changing coaches every 2 years and letting them have no say in recruitment for their initial season. It's just amateur stuff.

Mate no point keep bangin on about it, what's done is done, DA is gone and nothing will change that now. Only thing left is to get the best replacement we can and for me would prefer Bennett or Gould otherwise Kearney is best of what's left IMO.

No wallowing here. I'd rather our club think in the long term both about internal stability instead of bowing down to media pressure and sacking a coach after one poor season and making us a laughing stock in the process...

If you wanna sit back and be one of those guys who says "as long as the board think that's for the best then i'll support it" then good for you.

I know mate. But these forums exist for us all to express our opinions and that's just mine, and you have the right to yours just as equally. I disagree with the decision and quite frankly it makes no sense and as a passionate supporter i'll express my thoughts.

I wasn't arguing with you nor having a go for expressing your thoughts mate, no way, I was trulty trying to say best for your health to just let it go, not let it eat away at you and look forward.

If it helps you to express it and get it out then go for it I was not trying to deny you that right at all and apologise if it came across that way.

You're right mate, I had no issue with anything you said so no need for apologies. Guess I'm just venting. I think it's healthy to discuss these sorts of things in the forums with fellow Parra supporters because we're all extremely passionate and it's worthwhile hearing differing opinions whether we all agree or not. That's in regards to the issues that have surfaced in the past couple of days but also the future of our club.

Good to hear Eels Dude, don't let it affect you too much though. I've seen far worse crisis over my 50 years supporting and no doubt will live to see a few more.

I hope the club inquired about signing Wayne Bennett for 2012 before sacking Ando. Id give Wayne an open cheque book.

Should always aim for the best.

Problem is who's going to want to coach Parra for 2011 only before moving on. If it were considered to get Bennett for 2012 then they may as well have kept Ando on for next year regardless.
