Just read an interesting set of stats about backing up after playing a finals match in Townsville.

There have been nine occasions where teams played a finals match in Townsville and then had to play the following week. Their record in that second week is a combined 2 from 9 (22%).

So, we have the least amount of play the balls in the Opposition 20 metre area than any other team by some margin, as we've actually had around 20% less play the balls in the Opposition 20 metre area than the team with the second lowest (Souths), and 30% less than the average. However, we have the 5th best attack in the NRL, and within a converted try from the 3rd best attack. Attack is obviously not our issue at the moment, as we also have the 3rd worse defence in the comp.

Souths having the second lowest is an extreme concern for every team in the NRL, as they are deadly inside the opponents 20 metre.

Looking at the tackled in our own half stats, we're around 12% worse than average of everyone else also.

Basically if we loses Moses to a season ending injury, we will battle for the spoon with the Tigpies. His kicking game is the only thing keeping us in any contests. We'd be royally f**ked without him.

Not saying that we should not be getting out of trouble better, but (as you say) we are equal 5th in tries scored and seem to get down town pretty easy with the kick.

Our defence ? Yes 24 per match needs to be halved or more.

Eek... shows how much we struggle compared to other teams getting outof our own end. And maybe a reflection how on kick returns and early tackles our back three being unable to really penetrate or rack up many post contact metres?

I agree with most of this.

I will say though our attack looks average when inside 20m zone we attack better outside it so it may not be a bad thing. Always room to improve.

As you say Defence is the main issue premiership teams average between 12 & 16 points a game defensively. Cowboys the only team since 2005 to concede on average 18 points or more a game and win the comp.
