andrew farrell has typified the passion for international league that many brits and many supporters have for our great game on the world scale. By delaying his operation till after the series and by having a decent series on a personal note he has shown that international league is well and truly alive.

Wigan Chairman Maurice Lindsay today confirmed that Andrew Farrell, the Wigan and Great Britain Captain will be out of the game for at least four months following surgery to his knee yesterday.

Lindsay said,

"It was confirmed last night that the operation to Andy's knee was as serious as we had feared. In an attempt to cure his long standing problem it was necessary to actually create a micro-fracture of part of the knee bone. The Surgeon has stated that a recovery period of four months is required."

"We have known for weeks that this was likely to be the case but Andrew desperately wanted to play for GB against Australia and we delayed the operation to support both him and Great Britain. It does however mean that we will lose Andrew for the opening rounds of Super League next year as well as the opening phase of the RL Challenge Cup. It is a devastating blow for us following the cruciate ligament injury to Adrian Lam which ruled Adrian out for six months."
