They raved this year that Parramatta would be tough and strong on the field due to the increased size of the pack. But the early evidence seems to indicate that sure bargain shopping is great fun and has a chance to pay off but players who are not wanted elsewhere maybe are just plain bad in offence and defence. Smith needs to learn that paying next to nothing will not always yield champions.
On a side note I would just like to say that fitting Daniel Wagon in the side, which is what he will always attempt to do, is possible without damaging the look of the side. Vaealiki at FB, Wagon in the centres and 5/8 is a shit fight between Witt/Thorman/O'Dwyer and quite a few others. The forwards need to be heavily rotated. Armit and Peek were the best looking fringe players last year and they probably need a chance to shine. Cayless can only play back row if the front row goes forward and from the earliest time in the game Vella was doing that. Rubbish him all you like but he puts in more effort than the rest do. I personally think that it is the way the forwards hit the ball up that is the major concern. I didn't watch the game but just listened. If they did what they did for the last two years and run the forwards one out then my point is valid. B. Smith has no idea if he believes that this is the way to make metres in the NRL or any competition. Forwards must be running in at least pairs to cancel out the effect of the bash and barge defences. It gives the hit up a new dimension and allows for the forwards to make more metres by putting doubt in the defences minds.
