Payne Haas Requests Immediate Release

Danny Weildler broke the story today in the SMH.

According to reports from Peter Badel, Payne Haas who is currently on $750,000 wanted an immediate pay increase to $1,000,000 before re-signing a further season in 2025 for $1.2 million which the club rejected. In turn Haas requested his release, but the Broncos have chosen to honour his contract for the time being.

As it stands, Haas will line-up against the Gold Coast Titans but it could very well be Haas' last match in Broncos colours.

The big story will be if this will have any ramifications over the competition. This has been a story that's been on development since last year where it was suggested that Haas would find his way to Bondi. If Haas goes to Bondi on less than a million and signs on for less than 1.2 million it could be the straw that broke the camel's back as far as the salary cap is concerned.

The Broncos just released a statement. They've confirmed that they will not be releasing Haas from his contract and they intend to negotiate with him to extend his stay at the club.

Essentially it's what you'd expect for them to say.

A deliberate ploy on the Roosters part - wait until halfway through the season to pay half the cap?

Could this be a Tallis situation where the club forces him to sit out?

Pretty frustrating having sat through him paid a mozza when a rookie and misbehaving only to jump ship midway through a contract.

This is where they really have to make a stand. Don't release him and call his bluff. See if he is prepared to not play until 2025. His market value won't be too high, after almost 3 years out of the game.
