Haha - yeah, I still hold a grudge he turned down the Warriors coaching job when he had never been a 1st grade coach apart from his temporary gig.

Love this comment from the article:

The Panthers assistant first toured the Wests Tigers’ facilities but knocked back a lucrative offer to instead join Canterbury on a five-year deal as Dogs general manager Phil Gould paraded him as the second coming of Christ.

Around the same time, the Warriors quietly appointed their coach for 2023 on a three-year deal worth less than half of Ciraldo’s huge contract.

While resilience is being built, we still have only beaten 1 top 8 team this year in our 6 wins.
Early days for the Andrew Webster Era: (My prediction/expectations)

2023 - Finish 12th to 8th - Dally M Coach of the Year. Dally M - Shaun Johnson - Not likely to win the title.
2024 - Finish 8th to 6th - Dally M Roger Tuivasa-Sheck - Get into 2nd week of finals.
2025 - Finish 5th to 1st - Minor Premiership - Dally M Coach of the Year - We win.

This year our biggest loss margin has been 14 points (0-14 against the Roosters in what was a tighter affair than the score line suggests). And on average we are conceding 18.7 points a game. This is so encouraging.

The stats don't lie - the best teams are always strong defenders. Panthers are by far the best yet again on this metric - leaking just 12 points a game (that is incredible really).

If we were a bit smarter as a team (discipline/decision-making etc) and had a bit more attacking strike/finesse, I think we could threaten to be a top four team (maybe next year). If we avoid key injuries then we should really make the top 8 this year. We have a nice run home in the last month and a bit.

Anyway, we are much much better than we have been in recent years, so massive kudos to coach Webster and the whole club. Fingers crossed the trajectory upward continues.

Last night showed it’s too early to put a line through Payten and the Cows too. That’s a huge turnaround from the debacle at Leichhardt.
