Peace in our time

A RIGID, but simple shake of the hands between warring Manly owners Scott Penn and Max Delmege has gone a little way to sorting out the Sea Eagles off-field rift.
Penn and Delmege both came together briefly at the clubs season launch at the Manly Wharf Hotel on Friday.
There were no hugs, no natural affinity, but it was a small step towards resolution.
The pair had not spoken since early February when a Sea Eagles board meeting imploded, revealing a raft of issues tearing the club apart.
Both Penn and Delmege yesterday vowed to meet before a scheduled board meeting on March 18 to sort out their issues.
Well iron out our differences, theres no question, Delmege, moments after ordering a bottle of wine for his party, said.
Theres no reason why I wouldnt shake hands with him.
People do have differences in opinions and the time has come to work things out.
Penn said the onus is on the major shareholders of the club to put aside their differences and talk one-on-one.
Its probably prudent we sit down and work it out, then speak with the rest of the board, Penn said in between sips of diet-coke.
Its about sitting down and making sure it gets sorted. Ultimately, I dont think theres any massive dramas.
Now weve brought back the trophy (World Club Challenge), its about making sure weve got stability at board level.
Penn said he was also eager to ensure CEO Grant Mayer remains at the club beyond October.
Mayer elected not to seek an extension on his contract during Februarys board meeting, with a pro-Delmege faction against him.
Weve got to sort him out, Penn said.
In my mind, Des (coach Des Hasler) and Grant are the two most important people.
Des from a team perspective and Grant from a commercial perspective.
We need stability within the club.
Delmege even pledged to attend the March 18 board meeting despite his disdain for them.
I hate them, he said.
Everyone talks about the weather. But, I think Ive got to go, to be fair to the Penn family.
