Penailse "Milking"

Refs need to start blowing penalties against players who are 'milking'

Anyone else sick to death of painfully slow play the balls, defenders getting their arms or hands 'locked in' around the ball.

Seems like every 2nd tackle the referees are yelling 'milking, get up and play it'.

Just penailse the f**k out of it and be done with it.

Well the attacking team are usually penalising themselves if they are slowing down the ruck. Penalising it is only going to add a butt load of additional 50/50 calls. Think it's being policed in the best way now.

1st Milk: Warning.
2nd Milk: Penalty.
3rd Milk: Sin-Bin.

Will never happen, though.

Too many interpretations of what "milking" is between however many refs there are , they're having enough trouble handling a game as it is , this will confuse them more and make them stupider (if possible).

As posted in another thread:

If you would like to watch a sport that penalises every indiscretion and minor wrong doing, than I have one for you!

Its called Rugby Union, go and watch my friends and let me know how much enjoyment you derive from

refs are geniused enough without having to decide on something else. plenty of times where players legitimately get caught up together and the ref either yells milking or blows a penalty. if it is milking it also disadvantages the team trying to milk the penalty

Fulton tried to milk one last night by clamping Sandows leg against his ribs with his arm. He ended up losing the ball & was ruled a knock on, was the right call. Refs know when a player is milking a penalty & the reduced speed in the play the ball is penalty enough. Themlast thing we need in the game is more penalties based on the individual Refs interpretation.

its so shit that this has slowly worked its way into the game, players are probably encouraged by their coach to stay down if any contact is made with the head..
its so shit

the ol dead eyes boyd routine

- catch ball
- jog at line
- get driven backwards
- stare at ref
- slow play the ball
- repeat

it's like in the soccer when they're in the penalty box, any single tap and they collapse like a pile of shit, similar situation here where they are using any sort of hand on the ball as a reason to drop it and grab a cheap penalty

No change needed. They only penalise themselves by slowing down their play the ball, or losing the ball...

Also need to remove video ref from ruling on high tackles (id prefer remove video ref altogether) and watch the number of players staying down after a tackle drop.

It does contribute to penalties against defending teams when its deemed as holding up the ruck but really its just a case of the player milking the situation for all its worth.

But if you can get an advantage out of it, of course teams will keep doing it. Still, its not a major problem. The only time its really annoying is when the ball player then puts his hands up in the air and looks at the ref, trying to coax a penalty out of him. Anyone who does that should be penalized. Just play the ball and let the ref take care of it.

Milking is just what the refs say when they don't want to give a penalty to a side that is on a roll already (ie they are currently in "assist the other side" mode).

I get more annoyed when the ref shouts "*insert name here*, you're offside!!!" instead of penalising them for being offside! Well if he's offside penalise him!!!

Milking, while annoying in and of itself, I think is dealt with OK for the most part, it's when the person that is milking receives the benefit of a penalty that it is frustrating.

Having watched a lot of woman's hockey in the past few days, their one challenge per game is great and could easily be adopted by the NRL. The one that gives me the shits is when a defender gets penalised for not releasing when in fact the attacker has a hold of the defender's shirt. Its usually very obvious in replays and a challenge would sort that shit (and a lot of other stuff) out pretty quickly. No point to fake an injury when you get hit high, just signal to the ref that you want it reviewed after they've missed it. Of course get one wrong and you lose your review.
