The fine wasnt for going over the salary cap,the only club fined for that particular offence was melbourne..btw brisbane newcastle and souths were fined as well

I've gone looking on the official site because what the media say and what the clubs say can mean entirely different things. And in this case what I have read on the official site in a topic of discussion that the media manager has said and here i quote him:

In regard to a question on Penrith being fined.

Yeah, I think I know what it's about but I want to check tomorrow. It's really a technical thing only - we didn't go over the cap.

And here in regard to extracts being quoted from the media.

Television tends to report in "shorthand" and by the time the script has been manipulated by two or three people it's amazing that anyone understands it. And your average presenter has neither the experience nor wit to know if what they are saying is right or wrong.

I am not happy in the knowledge that Penrith have been fined and will refrain from commenting until i have read what the official site says.

I remember Mundine saying much the same thing when we (Storm) beat St. George to grab the premiership. He said that it was a fluke and that we wouldn't beat the Dragons again...well, the next time we played them we absolutely annihilated them. Can't quite remember the score, but it was a great match, I'll never forget the atmosphere that night. It was almost a good as a grand final...but not quite.

Ahem...forgive my reminiscing, so getting back to the point, people's immaturity just amazes me sometimes. I find it sad that some people feel they have to try and spoil someone else's moment of glory just because they don't like to lose. I can understand him being disappointed, but seriously, GET OVER IT!

I knew straight away when i read the title of this thread that it would be Cockburn.
Read the article properly.... Storm were the only team to actually exceed the cap, we just got fined for not leting the NRL know about Craig Gowers contract details because he had a let out cause thing. Well thats what i heard the story was anyway, something along those lines.
We didnt at any time exceed the salary cap.
