Perrett and other thoughts on last night....

as hard as he trys and as good as his dummy half runs are i am just sick of his silly little mental errors and vulnerability under the high ball.

the kick was ordinary on that winning titans try last night, and what does perret do??? of course he runs up and tries to put a catch on a ball that he has no business catching. it was going to land 10 metres out for christ sake. leave it for the offence to catch and hold your line and wrap them up. (i know we conceeded 2 down SKD's side as well but at least he was beaten by a good kick and a freakish catch)

when mini is back i think our best line up is

1. mini
2. amos
3. aubs
4. soliola
5. skd

13. sa

with perrett getting a long holiday in newtown

all in all im not too worried about the loss as bad as it was

it was a strange game and i think we thought we were going to roll them after easily coming back from 12 down and going into the sheds with a 12 point lead and just switched off.

the one thing that concerns me most heading into the finals is the fact that we play very poorly when we're behind. it was ony 4 points last night with 17 minutes to go and the way we played for the rest of the game you would think we were down by 20. same thing happened against the broncs in our only other close loss of the season and needs to be adressed.

anyway those are my thoughts on the evening

cheers

imo it would be better if our team were down by 12 rather than up .. at half time

it keeps our minds focused, at least... i had a vision that we would fall asleep in the 2nd 40 :x

agree with you there. when aubs is back i think he has to get a crack at the starting spot, shown himself to be an 80 minute player and looks to be more dangerous then brown. thought friend looks like a more then capable utility on the bench if needed

i thought brown played rather ok last night...
Aside from his fwd pass i didnt see to much that i had a problem with.

one thing that i think freddy needs to do is keep hold of a top 13
we see every week we have a different starting 13 and things get bit complicated.

not sure...
but imo, perrett should be in the centres, or nowhere.
foley should be our fullback with roberts and SKD on the wing.
Soliola/Maubs/Sa in the centres

He played brilliantly last year especially at fb, not sure what has happened. I quite like him still, he is fast, strong, agile and as you said the dummy half runs from the red zone are always good for relieving pressure imo we could do a lot worse.

Full Strength:
1. Mini
2. Amos
3. Soliola
4. Sa/Perrett
5. SKD

17. Perrett/Sa

It depends on who else is picked in the team as to who starts out of Sa and Perrett, if we bring only 2 props and a hooker then Sa should come off the bench as the utility as he can fill in the second row as well.

Tbh the person annoying me the most is bloody Mason, for 400k a year he sure doesn't do a hell of a lot.

i thought last night he was running hard and not doing his usual little useless shimmy before the line. albeit the runs do seem to be too few and far between

and another thing has mason ever put on a big hit???? dont think ive ever seen one

agree that perrett at fullback wasnt too bad but in my opinoion he just gets found out too much on the wing

the last tackle lunge for the line

those two were crucial moments imo

perret... hmm.. i'm okay with him, i'd leave him for now

To be fair it probably would have been the right thing to do. As I saw it unfold on tv I could see it was on and the defence had come up very quickly and if it wasn't for some very good desperate goal line defence he would probably be the hero of the game.

SKD is the one that annoys me the most. His urgency in defense sucked on the Titans first try from an arsey kick that should have been easily defended and also on the Josh graham try as he strolled past SKD who was left shirt grabbing.

He's a real danger under the high attacking kick bt FMD he is good for atleast 4 or 5 errors in a game.

You're right though, Perrett wasnt much better in the way he defended that kick. For all the work teams put in on the high attacking kick these days im surprised coaches dont put the same amount of time into teaching his players how to defend against them.

Especially the one which lands 10 m before the defensive line. All we needed to do, as you said, was let them catch it and wrap up the ball carrier and defuse the situation from there. Thats much safer than attempting the low percentage and unneccessary catch on it which led to two silly trys.

Dumb dumb football.

Actually I agree with that. It will show him he has to work to get starter's minutes. It should also be a good advantage having a guy of his strength and speed coming off the bench againt tired forwards, he could actually make some decent hit ups early in the count that way and make more of them.

9. Jaubs

1. Grose
2. Roberts
3. Maubs
4. Soliola
5. SKD
6. Anasta
7. Pearce
8. O'Mealy
9. Brown
10. Myles
11. Mason
12. Fitzy
13. Sa

14. Tupou
15. L Paea
16. Jaubs
17. Cherrington

Agree on Perret, had 1 good year, average before and average now.

edit: forgot Paea. Drop the Pillow

I think you have the starting team right on the money, bench you could change Paea for Shillington or FPN for Cherrington when there is a very physical game coming up were we will need the extra prop. The nucleus of your team is correct imo.

Agree, i forgot about paea (i knew someone was missing)

14. Mason
15. L. Paea
16. Brown
17. Cherrington/FPN/Pillow

in regards to adamkungl's team, sa at lock is a good idea however you could just as easily pt him in the 2nd row and fitzy at lock and i think that having him roving around is a great idea for as skilled a player as he, but maubs provides more of a phisical role as opposed to sa's skillful one.
