Perth rookie in Sharks' top 25
24 February 2004

Cronulla has named a teenage former West Australian state rugby league player in its top 25-man squad.

Prop Jon Green was spotted by club talent scout Theo Burgess in Perth two years ago and has spent the intervening time working his way through the Sharks' junior system.

Now 18-year old Green is one of a number of youngsters given National Rugby League contracts alongside stars such as David Peachey, Brett Kimmorley and Jason Stevens.

great to see

Yeah it is. Sharks also have another WA player if I am not mistaken and Nathan Vagg(who played a few games last year) from SA.

Vagg is a South Australian, Green would be the second WA player in the NRL, Matt Petersen is the first.

This is good news. Is Vagg and Peterson SA and WA juniors, or were they just born there?

Vagg is a SA junior , but played for St.Gregs Campbelltown a few years ago. Petersen is WA junior, before he first came to Newcastle. Petersen was born in Perth.

Tahu was born in Melbourne, but grew up in Central Charlestown, NSW.

Luke Phillips and Craig Polla-Mounter were also born there.

The Sharks also have Bronx Goodwin playing premier league who was also from WA.

Yeah but his old man was Ted Goodwin, there wasn't much chance of this kid playing anything but RL.

Cronulla could pick a peasant off the streets of Moombai and he would still be better than Jarred Anderson!

Lets move this to the Guppy forum please Admin. If it was a Roosters article the whole world would be abusing the writer for posting it in the NRL section. Who cares about some nobody making the Cronulla Top 25 nobodies?
