Phil Bentham ESL referee taken out by player accidentally during game.

I've seen some body checks on refs in my time but the hit on him by the Hull KR fullback was a ripper. It was almost comical. It was against Wigan. Classic. I loved Steve O's comment " he hasn't pointed to the spot yet". It was a deadset obstruction penalty against the ref. I guess he sent himself off.

They gave the try. I kid u not. Bentham did not see the try scored. Correct me if i am wrong but does a ref not have to make the referral from the field to get an upstairs ruling in relation to tries?

Hicks, also a SL ref, took over from his place on the touch line and referred it.

As for the fall he took, it was nasty. All his body weight went onto his trailing leg and it got fought underneath him. His reactions said it all!

I read he is ok, the ref, so that is the main thing. I wonder if the player's actions will be deemed accidental. In the NRL it would take up paper space for a few days.
