West Sydney have announced the release of American import, Jermaine Blackburn. Blackburn, playing in his first season in the Philips Championship, had participated in 11 games for the Razorbacks before been released on Tuesday and was averaging 18.0 points and 5.0 rebounds.
Razorbacks head coach Mark Watkins acknowledged that Blackburn was a talented young player with plenty of promise but said the team had to let the American go.
The chemistry hasnt been there between Jermaine, the team and coaching staff, he said.
The Pigs have seen several changes in the early stages of the 2005/06 Philips Championships with the surprise departure of Steve Markovic in October and major injuries to star import Nick Horvath and leading NBL point-scorer James Harvey.
Horvath is expected to return in time for his sides clash with the Kings on November 19 at the SuperDome, while Harvey is expected to suit up for this Fridays clash with New Zealand after dislocating his shoulder.
The Razorbacks have also received some much needed good news following negotiations for the signature of international forward/centre, Pero Vasiljevic. Vasiljevic returns to Australia on Tuesday after a stint with French club, Dijon and is expected to sign with the club and make his debut as early as Friday when the Pigs host the Breakers.
Hes coming in to boost the big man department and give us a presence on the block and leadership in the rebounding department which weve been crying out for all season, Watkins said.
The Razorbacks have also added 21-year-old Graeme Dann, a 201centimetre former Kings, Townsville and AIS guard, to the roster. Dann had his first training session with the Razorbacks this week.
With Vasiljevic due to sign, Dann coming into the roster and Harvey returning, Watkins has three much needed additions to his side, who currently sit in tenth position on Philips Championships ladder after nine rounds.
